**Communicative Disorders / Rehabilitation Assistant**

**Pikangikum Allied Health Services (PAHS)**

**Position Description**:
Under the direction of the Pikangikum Allied Health Manager and Pikangikum Education Authority (PEA), the Communicative Disorders Assistant/ Rehabilitation Assistant will deliver Speech Language Therapy under the guidance and supervision of the Speech Language Therapists (SLP) in the Pikangikum Allied Health Services (PAHS) program. This program is a joint venture between PEA and Pikangikum Health with the goal to create a more holistic services model. This position will be located from a primary office in Winnipeg, as well as travel when needed to Pikangikum First Nation for the provision of therapy, interdisciplinary team meetings, support to staff training and mentorship and consult with SLP and other therapists.

**Responsibilities will Include**:

- Under the supervision and guidance of the SLP, provide therapy services to children with complex physical, mental, cognitive, behavioural and/or social issues in person, via telecommunications and the use of video/web technology
- Consult and collaborate with SLPs, other practitioners and PEA staff including Resource Team, teachers and Tutor Escorts on interventions
- Create and develop therapy materials ensuring culture and indigenous language is incorporated and respected
- Maintain inventory of therapy supplies as required
- Provide parents/caregivers with resources, information and home programs
- Participate in home assessments with SLP and other practitioners as required
- Assist in the development of training tools and education workshops for parents/caregivers and staff
- Collect data and document intervention progress
- Participate in professional development as required
- Work closely with SLP, other practitioners and the Learning Resource Team at Eenchokay Birchstick School to identify students’ needs and organize services;
- Participate as needed in the development of a policy and procedures document that will lead the delivery of the services;
- Be available for other duties as identified in the ongoing development of the PAHS program;
- Spend at least one week a month in the First Nation to oversee the local services and delivery, as well as ongoing monitoring of staff and students’ needs;
- Work under the policies of the Pikangikum Education Authority.

**Qualifications**:

- Experience working with children with complex physical, mental, cognitive, behavioural and/or social issues
- Graduate from an accredited Communicative Disorders Assistant Program or a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant program
- Be able to work in a collaborative environment
- Excellent written and oral communication and well-developed interpersonal skills;
- Knowledge of Jordan’s Principle federal programming and services covered;
- technical/computer skills;

**Also required**:
At time of hire a Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Check will be required

A valid class 5 drivers License is required

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

**Salary**: $40,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
