Cecil Community Centre is a not-for-profit, multi-service neighbourhood centre that offers a broad range of recreational, educational, social, cultural, and capacity-building programs to area residents. For over 40 years, the Centre has played a vital role in the lives of community members of all ages. Our centre provides programs and services for children, youth, adults and seniors.

The Cecil Youth Programs offers youth 13 to 19 the opportunity to participate in free youth programs, earn volunteer hours, learn about job opportunities, and participate in events and more. Youth can build practical skills, actively engage in the community and make new friends Our program provides a safe, and inclusive environment in which youth feel encouraged. Participants will enjoy daily activities at the Cecil Community Centre. Activities vary from week to week (Arts & Crafts, Group Games, Sports, Movies and Workshops) and are designed to be age appropriate.

The Youth Cooking Instructor is responsible for developing a meal plan and teach youth ages 13 to 25 how to cook and bake. The Youth Cooking Instructor will support, nurture and develop the Cecil Cooking Class participants to grow in leadership skills, culinary skills, and personal capacity.

Youth Cooking Instructor reports to the Children and Youth Program Manager.

**Youth Cooking Instructor Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Supervise and direct all volunteers assigned to work with the Cecil Youth Cooking Class
- Create a cooking plan for all Cecil Youth Cooking Class program
- Relay to the Children and Youth Program Manager weekly cooking supplies
- Provide mentorship for Cecil Youth Cooking Class program participants
- Be knowledgeable of and adhere to all Cecil Community Centre policies and procedures.
- Responsible for health and well-being of self, volunteers and program participants
- Monitors and ensures appropriate student behavior and adherence to program rules
- Reports all difficulties (emergencies) related to health, safety, behavior and other problems immediately to the Program Manager
- Assists the Children and Youth Program Manager in assessing the Cecil Youth Cooking Class overall to identify any changes that need to be made for optimum functioning

**Requirements**:

- Previous experience is community based youth programs is preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Competent cooking & baking skills
- Creativity, enthusiasm, flexibility and the ability to take initiative
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Check
- Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent

**Hours and Honorarium**: 20 hours per week from June 24th - June 28th (12pm-4pm Monday
- Friday) & 4 hours per week from (2 PM to 4PM, Monday & Wednesday); $25 Honorarium per hour, $10 for parking every 2 hours. This is a 10 week Volunteer contract (July 2nd to August 28th) Applicants should be eligible to work in Canada.
