**GENERAL DESCRIPTION**:Reporting to the Manager, Children and Youth Services, the Child and Youth Relief Worker will plan and implement engaging programming for children aged 6-12 years old in the after-school program and support youth aged 13-29 years old who attend our drop-in programs.

**MAJOR DUTIES**:

- Facilitate program for children and youth aged 6-29 years old in the Kidz Klub after school and youth drop in programs.
- Plan and implement stimulating, creative, age-specific, social, educational and recreational activities based on the needs of participants in each individual program.
- Provide a stimulating and creative program based on children and youth’s needs, and with sensitivity to the diverse ethno-cultural backgrounds.
- Work with the participants as a group while remaining aware of each individual’s needs.
- Form a positive relationship with children and youth and be a role model while demonstrating strong leadership skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to work in harmony with team members and be able to work independently.
- Ensure the safety and supervision of program participants during program activities on and off site.
- May supervise volunteers at times.
- Facilitate full day programming on school P.A Days
- Complete outreach for the programs and uses community resources to plan special events and trips in the programs.
- Other duties as assigned.

**REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Two years’ work experience as a tutor, mentor, youth worker or related experience.
- Mature and responsible with 2-3 years previous program planning and implementation experience working with youth aged 6 to 29 years old in a social, educational and recreational program.
- Must be able to demonstrate skill as an instructor and have experience in facilitation, mentoring, and programming for children and youth including recreational sports (i.e. basketball and floor hockey) and educational workshops.
- Demonstrated skill and experience in delivering programming in at least three of the following areas: music, drama and /or visual art, employment and education, sports and cooperative games, computer programming and social media, arts and crafts, baking and cooking, environmental awareness.
- Experience working in a team environment with a solid understanding of learning and development, behaviour management concepts and support to youth from diverse, low-income communities.
- Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution and crisis intervention with youth.
- Computer skills and the ability to prepare reports, schedules, and flyers.
- Current First Aid/CPR
