The CLL Research Manager position in the UBC Sustainability Hub manages and contributes to multiple initiatives, programs and projects under the CLL umbrella that use university buildings, landscape and infrastructure as sources of research and learning. The position provides program and project management for new and existing research and educational projects and funding opportunities, creation of new initiatives, and expansion of knowledge dissemination activities beyond traditional academic publications. The CLL Research Manager works in close collaborations with academic researchers, students and staff in many different disciplines and departments across the university and a key part of the role is to build and sustain relationships between these individuals and groups. Additionally, they support the development of collaborations with external partners and management of off-campus projects.

This CLL Research Manager position is part of the Urban Innovation Research team in UBC’s Sustainability Hub, who manages the Campus as a Living Lab initiative. Governance and oversight of CLL initiatives are provided by the CLL Steering Committee, composed of senior university faculty and staff, who also help to catalyze, enable and support individual projects and activities. The role is focused on the UBC Vancouver campus but will support collaborations and connections with faculty and staff at the UBC Okanagan campus.

Organization Status

The CLL Research Manager reports directly to the Director, Urban Innovation Research in the UBC Sustainability Hub. The position will work in close collaboration with the Sustainability Hub Senior Director, CLL Steering Committee, and UBC faculty, students and staff on CLL programs and projects, as well as external partners.

Tasks/Work Performed- Manages the annual CLL Fund Competition, as well as follow-up support, communication and reporting with funded projects.- Liaises with university faculty members, graduate students and other academic researchers to provide guidance and direction on the development of living lab research projects, collaborations, grants and other opportunities.- Liaises with Campus Planning, Project Services, Building Operations and other planning/operational staff to coordinate the development and use of CLL research infrastructure on campus.- Manages interdisciplinary research and educational projects under the CLL umbrella, including developing and implementing new project proposals, knowledge exchange and communication activities with project stakeholders.- Develops or provides feedback on project workplans, schedules and budgets.- Facilitates, and in certain cases, conducts research, including data collection and analysis.- Coordinates knowledge dissemination efforts around CLL projects, findings and activities, to different target audiences (industry and public facing), and supports academic publications with researchers.- Works with the Director, Urban Innovation Research and Sustainability Hub Communications Manager on updates and expansions to the CLL website.- Manages the collection and organization of project documentation and information into reference libraries for current and future research.- Convenes meetings and communications with faculty, staff and students to supports the development of topic based or related
