Bonaparte First Nation (BFN), is a member band of the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council of the Secwepemc (Shuswap) people. The Nation is located west of Cache Creek and has a membership of roughly 970. The Nation’s main community is on the Bonaparte Indian Reserve No. 3 comprising 704 hectares, with 72 homes on-reserve, home for approximately 250 of our community members.

The Natural Resource Manager works within the Bonaparte First Nation (BFN) territory and surrounding areas. This position is responsible for referrals management, coordination of BFN projects and supervision of BFN Natural Resources department office, maintenance, operators/drivers and field staff. This position will administer and coordinator referrals and projects including field work/site visit components - related to fisheries, forestry and economic development. This position also involves coordinating with outside proponents, negotiating large projects relating to land reclamation and use and overseeing and implementing land management and use policies and strategies.

Program and Community Development:

- Manage budgets and resources allocated for natural resources management
- Supervision, leadership and mentorship of department staff
- Liaise with government agencies, landowners and stakeholders to develop, review and implement

natural resources plans
- Effectively engage and strengthen relationships with our partners to achieve goals and

objectives
- Collaborate and support other managers on projects related to land use
- Provide updates to the BFN community through engagement initiatives, the website, social media and newsletters
- Oversee the management and preservation of the natural resources within the nations traditional territories
- Develop and implement sustainable land management policies, programs and plans and strategies to protect the natural resources within and surrounding the BFN territory
- Ensure the maintenance supervisor, project supervisors, operators and drivers are maintaining trucks and machinery
- Partner with HR to ensure recruitment, training, development and promotion policies are met

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in science, forestry, mining or lands-related fields, e.g Natural Resource Management, Land Use Planning, Geography, Environmental Sciences, Biology, or the right combination of experience and education;
- Previous experience in a management role
- Previous experience in a Natural Resource related role such as forestry, referrals and/or fisheries
- Experience managing budgets and forecasting revenue
- Demonstrated project management experience
- Proven record of successful working relationships with First Nations
- Excellent research, analysis and problem solving skills
- Complete working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Outlook, Excel and

PowerPoint
- Experience working with maps and referrals software
- Valid BC Driver’s License, ability and willingness to travel to remote areas and to meetings outside the region
- Flexible work schedule Competencies - Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:

- Financial planning experience with demonstrated ability to prepare department specific annual budgets, track and monitor monthly budgets, provide regular reports and ensure financial systems for programs are maintained with accountabilities in place.
- Strategic thinker and “doer” with the ability to develop and implement strategies and plans based on input from leadership, community members, and other sources of input (cultural values, science, economics)
- Excellent communication skills including competent public speaking, professional writing and report preparation
- Experience in people management including recruitment, training, development, mentoring and performance management;
- Experience in collaborative planning at a community level;

- Demonstrated above average interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills and leadership skills;
