Job Title: Investment Operations Manager

Location: Kingston Head Office

BACKGROUND:
The Univest Company has been established as Unilever’s in-house central investment unit responsible for overseeing the c. €24bn of assets of Unilever’s worldwide pension schemes. The Univest Company provides services to Unilever’s pension schemes ranging from simple advice and assistance to reviewing and fully implementing investment strategies.

The Univest Company also has responsibility for running Unilever’s range of cross border asset pooling vehicles in Luxembourg (the Univest vehicles) consisting of different investment products across multi asset classes.

The Univest Company was formed from Unilever’s dedicated investment teams in Corporate Pensions, the UK Pension Fund and the Dutch Pension Fund. Employees operate within a single team spread across two locations: London (Kingston) and Rotterdam (Netherlands). This position is reporting to the Head of Operations who is based in Kingston.

JOB PURPOSE
- The main purpose is to provide investment operations expertise and support to the Head of Operations for the Univest Pooling vehicle and several country pension plans. In addition, to act in the capacity of the client facing Investment and Funding Committee Secretary for our largest pension plan, the Unilever UK Pension Fund

Other key areas are:

- Senior operations representative: Be the point of contact for the Head of Operations and give guidance to and oversee (junior) operations investment analyst(s);
- Senior point of contact for third parties: key role in monthly and quarterly service meetings with third parties, including full oversight of all ongoing activities and projects
- Local pension plan operations: Oversight and coordination of day to day investment issues that arise
- Transitions: Provide oversight and leadership in the coordination of transitions for the Univest pools and the local country pension plans
- Legal documentation: Provide leadership in the coordination of legal matters (IMA’s, TMA’s, Tax & Corporate action docs, related to the investments of Unilever’s pension plans serviced by Univest Company.
- Budget: Produce and track budgets for the Univest pooling vehicle and pension plans
- Risk and efficiencies: working closely with Risk Manager and Head of Operations on incidents and efficiencies on operational processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Senior representative/governance
- Be the point of contact for the Head of Operations and give guidance to and oversee (junior) operations investment analyst(s);
- Support the Head of Operations with the planning, implementation and/or monitoring of projects related to the role.
- Operate as a linking pin between front office, client representatives and operations, concerning Univest pooling vehicle and non-direct Univest clients.
- Draft or provide input on papers/presentations to governing bodies, such as Board of Trustees for pension plans or Investment Committee for the Univest pooling vehicle.
- Attend Investment Committee meetings or Board of Director meetings when required.
- For our UK pension plan: To perform the role of the IFC Secretary, which includes drafting the IFC agenda, liaising with the Chair of the IFC and the UK CIO, leading key investment operational projects, presenting to the IFC and the Trustee Board.

Service providers
- Key role in monthly and quarterly service meetings with third parties, including full oversight of all ongoing activities and projects.
- Initial point of escalation with service providers when there are issues relating to their activities.
- Perform periodic reviews of custodians, legal, auditors and tax advisors and where necessary lead the full review of such service providers.

Implementation
- Oversee the monitoring of asset allocation positions, cash flow and action rebalancing or disinvestment needs for specific country pension plans.
- Provide leadership in the coordination of legal matters (IMA’s, TMA’s, Tax & Corporate action docs, related to the investments of all Unilever’s pension plans serviced by Univest Company.
- Provide leadership in the coordination of transitions following the Univest Company standard.
- Oversee implementation of changes related to appointments of investment managers or changes in the documentation agreed with service providers.

Budget
- Preparation and monitoring of the annual budget of the FCP / Univest structure
- Oversee the budgets for the UK pension plan, including approval of invoices and quarterly accrual process.

Risk and efficiencies
- Key oversight on operational incidents occurring and reported through the incident log
- Work closely with Risk Manager/Operational Risk Specialist on resolving incidents in a timely and efficient manner.
- Play an active role in making efficiencies within the operations area of the organisation.
