**Position

Reporting to the Team Lead Workforce Administration, the Pension Specialist is primarily responsible for providing timely and critical support and advice to the Pension and Benefits Advisors in addition to overseeing the integrity of benefits plan entitlements and reporting.

**Duties**
- Create or modify calculation programs/tools to facilitate and effectively support the administration of the pension and benefits plans, legislative or collective bargaining updates, annual rate changes and other administrative procedures
- Calculate pension adjustments (PA), pension adjustment reversals (PAR), and past service pension adjustments (PSPA)
- Audit the pension batch and leave tracking processes to ensure validity of information and modifies and updates member data where necessary
- Leads the coordination of year-end activities for Pension & benefits including data updates, validations, and reconciliations with the support of the Pension & Benefits Advisors
- Generates, formats, prepares, validates and corrects data for final year end reporting which includes Non-Participant reports and the annual process for supplemental pension plans
- Assist with the maintenance of existing functionality within the benefits and pension administration system and testing/implementation of new/revised functionality
- Audits monthly Pension & Benefits reports to identify data discrepancy in pension service, salary and contribution and benefits plan set up
- Respond to escalations and resolve complex issues related to plan provisions and pension calculations
- Responsible for the development, training, evaluation and monitoring of the transactional processes as related to the administration of pensions
- Works with Auditors to provide documentation to support pension reporting obligations and validates university’s compliance with pension plan guidelines and practices
- Coordinates with Payroll Reconciliation Specialist to ensure monthly and annual remittance is reconciled in a timely manner
- Responsible for maintaining the highest level of data integrity for pension records by conducting data audits and coordinating pension data updates

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Human Resources, or another related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
- Payroll certification (PCP or CPM), Pension/Benefit certification (CEEBS) is desired
- Five years of progressive pension administration experience in a large organization, preferably post-secondary or public sector
- Strong knowledge of the fundamentals of defined benefit and defined contribution plan design and understanding of Income Tax Act as it applies to def
