This position will be responsible for supporting the clinical education needs at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.

**Rotation/Shifts**:
Days, 8 hour shifts.

**Basic Requirements**:

- Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Baccalaureate in Nursing;
- Masters in Nursing or Education;
- Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO);
- Minimum of five (5) years experience in critical care;
- Successful completion of course and ability to care for patients requiring intra-aortic balloon pump, and continuous renal replacement therapy;
- Previous experience in a teaching or managerial position;
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written format;
- Positive interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across inter-professional groups and with peers across the organization;
- Ability to direct, supervise, teach, coach, mentor, and advise nursing personnel in the area of nursing standards;
- Ability to teach, review, and evaluate critical care course content including principles of hemodynamics including invasive hemodynamic monitoring, temporary cardiac pacing, and response emergency cardiac situations;
- Ability to take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development
- Experience with quality initiatives and/or professional development
- Knowledge of and ability to effectively use adult teaching and learning strategies, incorporating educational theories and practice standards;
- Ability to develop, review and revise policies related to professional practice and clinical care;
- Ability to develop and monitor quality indicators within the Surgical program;
- Ability to work in a self-directed manner with mínimal supervision;
- Demonstrated leadership ability;
- Demonstrated group facilitator skills;
- Demonstrated effective presentation skills;
- Exceptional communication skills;
- Thorough working knowledge of current nursing theories, research and practice standards;
- Thorough working knowledge of current and future trends in health care;
- Demonstrated knowledge of current legislation affecting patients and employees;
- Proficiency in English and French - oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level)

Language proficiency requirements are based on the nature of the position and the level of interaction with French and English-speaking clients

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Successful completion of course and ability to care for patients requiring ventricular assist device;
- Previous experience with teaching critical care;
- Previous experience the critical care preceptorship and/or mentoring;
- CNA certification (preferred in Cardiovascular or Critical Care).
