The Clinical Epidemiology Program is looking for a Clinical Research Educator (CRE) in support of the CANadian Consortium of Clinical Trial TRAINing (CANTRAIN) project. CANTRAIN is a national clinical trial training program (CTTP) in response to a call by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR). Its vision is to offer the best, certified and standardized clinical trials’ training and mentoring program across Canada, accompanied by Internships for Trainees in a real-world setting.

The CRE uses adult learning principles and instructional strategies to adapt, deliver, and evaluate CANTRAIN educational programs to enhance and promote clinical research competency, achieve high regulatory compliance standards, and facilitate clinical research professional development activities.

The CRE is responsible for the onboarding and ongoing education of clinical research staff, students and clinician researchers, from novice to expert abilities, using the CANTRAIN clinical trial training streams learning pathways. Educational programming is expected to be variable in delivery mode and style and sensitive to the role complexities of a research hospital. The position requires well-developed communication skills (written and oral) and advanced clinical research skills.

**Specific Responsibilities**:

- Facilitate the onboarding/orientation of new users to the CANTRAIN platform.
- Adapt and deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, CANTRAIN orientation and onboarding programs for new clinical research staff to the institution.
- Deliver or facilitate the delivery of CANTRAIN curricula/learning pathways for all training streams at participating sites.
- Facilitate the adoption of the CANTRAIN platform by new sites across the province.

**Orientation/onboardin**
**g**: Develops, coordinates, facilitates, and conducts CANTRAIN onboarding and orientation programs for new clinical research staff and other healthcare professionals involved in clinical research at the member institution.
- Collaborates with institutional clinical research leadership to identify onboarding/orientation needs of staff and target learning outcomes.
- Identifies relevant institutional guidelines, protocols, policy and procedures and adapts CANTRAIN onboarding/orientation materials in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Adapts CANTRAIN onboarding and orientation materials for the local institutional environment.
- Conducts orientation in a manner that facilitates a positive learning environment.

**Program Delivery**: Develops, coordinates, facilitates and delivers CANTRAIN curricula/learning pathways for all training streams at participating sites;
- Coordination and delivery of CANTRAIN curricula across all training streams.
- Adapts CANTRAIN learning pathways to maximize uptake and effectiveness in the local institutional context.
- Applies the principles of adult learning in all educational offerings and utilizes multiple teaching strategies based on learning styles or settings.
- Utilizes a variety of knowledge transfer strategies to ensure the integration of knowledge into practice.
- Develops measurable marketing strategies for CANTRAIN training streams.
- Provides leadership to promote compliance with standards, guidelines, laws and requirements of regulatory agencies, credentialing agencies and professional organizations.
- Models collaborative leadership across programs and professions to achieve a positive learning environment
- Fosters the development of teaching skills in others and supports educational needs assessments.
- Serves as a resource to all departments in developing specific processes or training approaches to maintain compliance in clinical research.

**Program improvement**: Implements a consultation process to meet the needs of internal stakeholders and institutional strategic goals pertaining to clinical research education and training.
- Ability to work with research teams and assess gaps in performance at unit or individual level in a supportive manner.
- Performs needs assessments to identify gaps between desired and actual practice and designs cost-effective training and change management plans to meet organizational needs.
- Provides feedback to CANTRAIN leadership to surface institutional concerns, needs or requirements for ongoing Platform improvement.

**Basic Requirements (Education/Experience)**:

- Bachelor’s degree or Undergraduate Degree in Adult Education, Health Sciences, or Business Administration or equivalent combination of education and related experience
- Experience in education/teaching, including experience developing, implementing, presenting, and evaluating educational programs
- Five to seven years of clinical research experience within a university, research institute, or hospital research environment
- Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills
- Customer service oriented with the ability to work well under pressure
