Railcar Mechanical Manager

**Job Summary**
The Railcar Mechanical Manager, will report directly to the Director of Operations and oversee the Railcar team. This role is crucial in defining and prioritizing shop project objectives, identifying critical success factors, and setting deliverables for the team. The Manager is responsible for motivating the team, instilling a sense of urgency to meet project deadlines, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Key areas of focus include enhancing shop production capabilities, maintaining high-quality standards, ensuring safety, and managing costs effectively.
**Primary Activities and Responsibilities**:
- Oversee decision-making for Railcar Operations under the guidance of Management.
- Develop project plans, estimates, proposals, and budgets for railcar services.
- Prepare and present project proposals, plans, and budgets to senior leadership.
- Provide on-site oversight during Railcar Services Projects.
- Collaborate closely with the sourcing team during the preparation of RFQs and communicate with vendors.
- Review and report on project progress and delivery, ensuring alignment with objectives.
- Lead cross-functional teams to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Offer hands-on guidance and coaching to engineers, auditors, and other team members.
- Ensure the Railcar team adheres to quality, safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
- Stay informed of and comply with all relevant laws and regulations pertaining to railcar repair.
- Identify and address any safety, quality, or compliance issues immediately.
- Maintain appropriate production rhythm through effective reporting, meetings, and reviews.
- Provide leadership and support to the Railcar Foreman as needed.
- Drive shop standardization initiatives as identified by the Management Team.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Management Team.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:

**Requirements**:
- 3+ years’ experience in project leadership within a manufacturing /repair environment
- Familiarity with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.
- Highly organized and adaptable to change
- Able to read blueprints and schematic drawings
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and large projects with mínimal direction
- An ability to influence cross-functional decision makers
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Self-starter, energizing, results-orientated, and ability to multi-task
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and results orientation
**Preferred**:
- Bachelor’s degree with mechanical/chemical engineering discipline or relative railcar experience may be accepted
- Demonstrated execution of project goals while satisfying safety, quality, performance, schedule, and budget
- Demonstrated engineering knowledge, project management, and business planning processes.
- Having experience in full railcar repair cycle.
- Demonstrated LEAN skills
- Ability to communicate and influence senior leadership

**Preferred**:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering, or equivalent railcar experience.
- Proven track record of achieving project goals while meeting safety, quality, performance, schedule, and budget requirements.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, project management, and business planning processes.
- Experience with the full railcar repair cycle.
- Demonstrated experience with LEAN methodologies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with and influence senior leadership.
