**Position Purpose**:
The Production Supervisor
**Rotating Shift)** is responsible for leading/ directing the railcar production for assigned work center(s) at the Moose Jaw Service Center. The person in this role is on the front line and must ensure that employees performing repairs on railcars have all the tools, equipment, information and training needed to complete their tasks within GATX’s standards. Accountable for leadership of skilled labor employees including all aspects of safety, quality, production and cost. Ensures the highest quality work in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.

Provides direction and motivation to the workforce to ensure performance metrics are achieved. Ensures consistent and fair administration of employee policies and procedures.

- Manages work center(s) to ensure that work assigned to repair employees are performed in an efficiently and cost-effective manner and based on the planned target to release;
- Effectively plans, organizes and schedules process repairs to railcars
- Mentors employees to ensure they perform their daily tasks in a safe manner and abide to all GATX Health and Safety rules and procedures;
- Maintains an effective workforce by recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, and managing performance.
- Performs audits to ensure high quality repairs.
- Accountable for production.

- Uses technical experience, expertise and problem-solving ability to achieve and maintain a quality repair.
- Maintains an effective work force by ensuring that the employees have the most recent work instructions and are qualified to perform the required repairs;
- Approves daily time cards from direct reports in LCA
- Develop ideas for operational improvement and growth
- Submit required metrics and documentation in a timely manner

- Communicates work area status/activities to the Production Coordinator. Communicates with downstream departments to facilitate car flow.

- Ensures that all necessary administrative work is complete and accurate, including Shop Portal, Schedule Tool, POD Accuracy and Labor Collection.
- Other related responsibilities as assigned

**Scope of Work**:
The Production Supervisor maintains a close working relationship with the Production Coordinator, Service Center Manager, Environmental and Safety Coordinator, Quality Manager and the office clerks. The individual in this role will have a very good understanding of the Service Center metrics and goals. The impact of this position on the business is very important as it ensures that daily safety, quality, production, environmental and cost goals are achieved. The person in this position will have a high level of interaction with production employees throughout the daily schedule. The decisions made by the person filling this position are of a highly technical nature in the mid-range of complexity and independent judgment as relates to railcar repair. This position’s primary functions are conducted in accordance with established policies and principles. This position will have a range of approximately 10-30 production employees reporting to it.

Qualifications:
**Education and/or Experience Required (including certifications)**:

- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a fast-paced production environment, preferably experience in Railcar Repair, Blast and Finishing.
- Knowledge of Welding procedures and railcar materials
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Association of American Railroads (AAR) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) rules and regulations.
- Ability to lead a versatile team.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, in English.
