The School of Cities at the University of Toronto is one of a kind, created to address the pressing issues facing urban areas to better cities and urban regions. **Your opportunity**:
Knowledge translation is intended to focus on broadening the reach of scholarly work to affect changes in policy, community action, and industry decisions. That means meeting our audience where they are, helping them to understand esoteric concepts that might inform their work; advocating actionable changes based on research insights; supporting advancements that create real positive change for communities. For the School of Cities, knowledge translation is not just about repackaging scholarly work, it’s about answering the questions, “so what?” and “now what?,” in order to recommend actions. To that end, the work for us might take the form of a policy brief, a script for a video, a storyboard for a documentary, display cards for an exhibition, or an interview protocol for a podcast.

The Knowledge Translation Specialist will work with the core School of Cities team of staff and faculty, as well as becoming an addition to the teams of two of our affiliated transportation initiatives in particular: Mobility Network and Mobilizing Justice. They will work closely with the staff and faculty of these organizationsto amplify their academic work and connect with change-makers who are committed to improving cities.

This is a one-year term position with the possibility of extension.

**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Drafting documents for knowledge translation purposes
- Proofreading and fact-checking content
- Synthesizing technical, qualitative and contextual research data
- Formatting research results to be presentable and easily comprehensible
- Drafting summaries of research project results
- Fostering and maintaining positive relations with stakeholders to support knowledge translation activities
- Generating original concepts and writing copy
- Drafting storyboard content and presenting to clients as options

**Essential Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Political Science, Public Policy, or closely related field, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum four (4) years recent and related knowledge translation, journalism, or public scholarship writing experience in the University, or urban/public policy research organization.
- Experience in knowledge translation of academic research, scholarship activity, working with granting agencies and organizations involved in urban affairs (cities, governments, private and/or public sector).
- Experience in policy writing and government relations communications.
- Experience organizing seminars, workshops, colloquia.
- Experience working in a matrix organization or reporting to multiple program leaders.
- Experience managing multiple projects and project teams.
- Demonstrated high degree of tact and sensitivity in dealing with multiple stakeholders within and outside the University.
- Superior research, writing and communication (verbal and written) skills, demonstrated ability to write and edit reports and to prepare and present ideas and analysis to a diverse range of audiences.
