**Position Description**:
**Knowledge Mobilization and Communications Coordinator - CanScreen T1D Research Consortium**

The Canadian Population Screening for Risk of Type 1 Diabetes Research Consortium, "CanScreenT1D," a newly formed national initiative funded by CIHR and JDRF, is focused on determining the acceptability and feasibility of screening Canadian children for risk of developing type 1 diabetes and for developing and implementing a pilot screening program.

**Communications Responsibilities**
- Developing a comprehensive communications strategy that promotes consistent, equitable messaging across all channels, including creating engaging content tailored to diverse audiences.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries
- Create newsletter, website, and report content, which is current, reliable, original, and highlights the consortium's research findings, initiatives, and impact.
- Managing the consortium's online presence, including the website and social media platforms, to disseminate research findings, promote engagement, and grow the consortium's social media presence through a developed content calendar and community engagement.
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including government agencies, industry partners, non-profit organizations, the media, and media outlets to maximize research impact and secure coverage for consortium activities.
- Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of both knowledge mobilization initiatives and communication strategies, providing regular reports on outcomes, metrics such as engagement, reach, and impact, and recommendations for improvement.

**Knowledge Mobilization Responsibilities**
- Co-creating and implementing knowledge mobilization plans that effectively disseminates research findings to both academic and non-academic audiences.
- Collaborating closely with researchers, consortium partners, and research teams to identify key findings, translating complex research into accessible formats, and ensuring messaging is consistent across all platforms.
- Staying informed about trends and best practices in knowledge mobilization and communications, contributing to the consortium's strategic planning, and using insights into equity, diversity, inclusion, and cultural sensitivity to inform strategies.
- Co-develop knowledge mobilization resources and materials including training, templates, modules, and other resources.
- Support teams to scale, spread, and sustain the implementation of various knowledge mobilization tools and strategies
- Provide ongoing knowledge mobilization consultation and support to all research teams
- Attend meetings and events to present knowledge mobilization updates and activities

**Here is what you will need**:

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Education, or a related field, with a solid foundation in knowledge translation, research methods, and processes.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in communications, public relations, knowledge mobilization, science communication, or a related area, preferably within a healthcare, research, academic, or nonprofit setting.
- Prior research experience is considered an asset
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful communications strategies and to translate complex scientific or academic information into clear, engaging content for non-specialist audiences.
- Strong writing, editing, presentation and project management skills, capable of conveying complex scientific information in an accessible and compelling manner, coordinating multiple initiatives simultaneously, and meeting tight deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work collaboratively in a team.
