**the challenge**

The Employment Placement Specialist supports the Ukrainian Evacuees Support Program, which aims to build upon an existing program that has proven to support Ukrainian evacuees in their employment journey by including a language component for Ukrainian evacuees looking to gain employment or better employment opportunities. This project will focus on supporting Ukrainians with lower levels of English (CLB 3), with the ultimate outcome being that Ukrainian evacuees will have enhanced access to English language learning opportunities to support their integration into the Alberta labour market.

**the opportunity**

The Employment Placement Specialist facilitates the placement of students into Edmonton’s labour market. Over the course of four cohorts, each consisting of 15 students and spanning 13 weeks. The Employment Placement Specialist will utilize knowledge about the local, regional, and provincial labour market to access hidden job market opportunities and work closely with employers and the English Language Instructor to match students with sustainable jobs within Alberta’s labour market.

The project team consists of two members: the Employment Placement Specialist and the English Language Instructor. The latter is responsible for enhancing student language levels to prepare them for job placement. Given the small size of the program team, collaborative work and mutual support are paramount to program success.

The Employment Placement Specialist will focus on three pillars of work:
**Recruitment on behalf of employers**:

- Recruiting employers and seeking out job placement opportunities
- Marketing students to employers and conducting necessary follow-ups when students are placed
- Engaging industry representatives in a variety of contexts

**Job readiness coaching**:

- Facilitating group/individual coaching and mentorship on pre-employment and job maintenance issues
- Assisting students to develop targeted resumes, cover letters and interview skills for employers
- Providing job retention assistance for those students who need additional coaching and mentoring to maintain employment or to make the next step on their career path
- Scheduling workplace visits to gain a greater understanding of the work culture and student fit

**what it takes**

While all backgrounds will be considered, the most helpful history will involve lived experience in career development, human services, adult education, human resources, or marketing. Fluency in Ukrainian and English is required.
