Statistical Analyst (II)

**Unit/Project Description**:
The Population Health Research Institute is a joint institute of Hamilton Health Sciences and McMaster University, Department of Medicine. The

Population Health Research Institute is a highly successful and high profile research group which conducts research in 101 countries targeting at

improving the health of people around the world. The PHRI currently employs over 300 staff members and over 40 scientists. Currently the PHRI is

conducting over 100 ongoing clinical trials and epidemiology studies. The statistical staff supports all ongoing studies, as well as the publication of

the results of studies that are already closed, targeting high impact journals, with over 350 manuscripts published every year (during the most

recent years).

**Job Summary**:
**Purpose and Key Functions**:

- Compile and analyze data and interpret trends, fluctuations, and other changes that may emerge.
- Develop forms and procedures required for the collection and compilation of data.
- Oversee the design and maintenance of databases, data collection forms, error checking methods, and related programs for collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Design database specifications and modify existing software packages to meet specific research project needs.
- Document new designs, codes, and modifications.
- Develop test cases and test system upgrades and enhancements.
- Write sections of scientific papers, funding proposals, grants, and abstracts.
- Conduct data audits, compile results, analyze and summarize audit findings.
- Coordinate and manage the collection, delivery, entry, verification, analysis, and reporting of data.
- Provide advice regarding data collection and analysis required for research projects.
- Recommend modifications to processes related to data collection and data entry conventions and develop implementation plans.
- Research pertinent literature in a designed project area and analyze the applicability of the concepts.
- Develop and deliver presentations and training sessions.

**Supervision**:
Provide lead hand supervision and is responsible for the quality and quantity of work of others.

**Requirements**:
Master’s degree in Statistics or related field of study.

Requires 3 years of relevant experience.

**Assets**:

- Strong applied statistical and computing skills in a UNIX environment and previous experience with large databases;
- Strong communication skills (both written and oral) ;
- Expertise in clinical trials methodology

**Additional Information**:
The Incumbent requires strong expertise in industry-sponsored clinical trials, in particular phase II trials, and proven ability to program reports (proc report or proc template) and graphs (R). Experience in coordinating multiple projects and the work of others is essential.
