**Job Summary**

The Financial Planning Analyst (FPA) at Mohawk College is a is a senior analytical position that plays a key role in financial planning and analysis. The FPA is responsible for developing and maintaining the annual operating plan, providing essential support to the Manager, Financial Planning & Budgeting, and collaborating closely with the broader Financial Planning leadership team. While the FPA position is broad in scope, each analyst holds primary responsibility for specific clients within the college or particular areas of specialization.

**What you’ll be doing**:
**Advise and assist in developing the College-wide financial plan**
- ** **Support the development of the college’s financial plan, especially related to the operating budget.
- Provide client support in budget development, creating corporate financial models, and monitoring enrolment plans and related discretionary spending.

**Provide operational support and direction in in financial matters**
- ** **Provide ongoing support to financial managers within the FPA’s client portfolio, guiding them in budget preparation, analysis, performance monitoring, and forecasting. This includes managing budget adjustments and providing accurate year-end projections.
- Analyze and report on budget vs. actual, revenue vs. expenses, and budget vs. forecast. Advises on the financial implications to the college’s financial plan.
- Review monthly operating statements and detailed reports, verifying entries for appropriateness, and guide managers on addressing discrepancies.
- Process Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) and other Federal funding partners’ quarterly and annual claims, ensuring financial/statistical data meets contract requirements.
- Prepare ad-hoc financial and statistical reports for stakeholders, designing reports to meet data quality standards and user needs.
- Documents processes and ensure they are kept up to date.
- Act as a mentor and trainer to financial managers, including training departmental staff pm ERP/reporting software, forecasting, and more.

**Other Initiatives and Project-Based activities**:

- ** **Monitor, research, and prepare detailed analysis on year-to-date budget variances. Perform monthly account reconciliations for areas under the FPA’s responsibility, and reconcile grant funding to contracts.
- Support the annual audit by preparing working papers and detailed analysis for assigned areas.

**New Academic Program Proposal Simulations**
- ** **Review assumptions with the Associate Dean & Operations Manager and prepare 5-year cash flow analyses for new programs, including detailed enrolment, revenue, and expenditure projections.
- Prepare a summary of issues, observations, and recommendations for each proposal.

Other duties as assigned.

**What you’ll bring to the role**:

- ** **A degree in Business, Commerce, or a related field, and a professional accounting designation (Certified Professional Accountant - CPA).
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Strong analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to work with complex data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Key skills include time management, the ability to learn quickly, adaptability, initiative, and teamwork.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly with data manipulation tools (Excel, Access).
- Experience with developing and delivering presentations (PowerPoint). Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
