**Overview**:
This position supervises staff and volunteers and reports to the Manager, Parks Programs. In addition to providing oversight of the Nature Park and Nature House, this Coordinator position will also provide input to the Parks Services team on the City-wide management of natural areas and nature education programming.

**Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:

- Provide liaison, consultative and resource services to community partners, service providers, user groups and other stakeholders.
- Develop, administer, and manage consultants, contracts and minor and major capital projects.
- Prepare and administer operating budgets for the Nature Park, programs, events, and major initiatives.
- Foster community support and involvement in services and programs.
- Lead a team of dedicated and passionate professionals to deliver projects and initiatives.
- Participate on cross-functional teams to support the advancement of corporate and community projects and initiatives.
- Ensure that corporate and departmental objectives and requirements as identified in relevant strategies (e.g. Parks and Open Space Strategy, Community Wellness Strategy, Ecological Network Management Strategy) are met.
- Plan, schedule, approve time sheets, assign, mentor, supervise and review the work of subordinate staff, contractors, and volunteers.
- Hire, supervise, coordinate, schedule and provide feedback to staff, including providing formal performance (ePerformance) reviews as required.

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:

- Knowledge of best practices in the management of natural areas, nature-based educational programs and engagement with the diverse City of Richmond community.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, objectives and philosophy of nature education and outreach, municipal government, parks programming, and community recreation services.
- Knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work performed.
- Knowledge of the parks, recreation and nature-based programming needs and community needs of the Richmond’s residents.
- Ability to plan, develop, coordinate and administer parks programs including major parks events such as Halloween-related events at the Nature Park.
- Ability to provide liaison, consultative and advisory services to multiple community partners and user groups including the Richmond Nature Park Society.
- Ability to develop and promote community interest and involvement in parks programs.
- Ability to recruit, supervise, lead, mentor, delegate, coordinate and schedule the work of staff and also assist in the work.
- Ability to recognize politically sensitive situations, respond appropriately to potentially sensitive issues and provide timely updates to the Manager, Parks Programs on related matters.
- Ability to work effectively with volunteers.
- Ability to effectively multi-task and manage competing work demands, work well under pressure and deal with stressful situations with professionalism.
- Ability to courteously and effectively deal with the public in providing information and assistance regarding parks and recreation activities and programs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a variety of groups, businesses and association members.
- Ability to work both independently and interdependently while exercising sound judgement and initiative.
- Ability to stand-in for the Manager, Parks Programs when said individual is absent for an extended period of time (e.g. vacation)
- Ability to prepare and administer budgets.
- Ability to use PeopleSoft or a similar financial management system.
- Ability to use REDMS or a similar records management system.
- Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook effectively.
- Ability to successfully clear a Police Information Check.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- A university degree in urban ecology, environmental education, parks management, environmental science, or related field of study including or supplemented by specialized courses and relevant work experience.
- 5 years’ experience OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of BC.

**Working Conditions**:
Duties are generally performed in an office environment. Outdoor site visits are also required.
