**Working for the Department/Faculty**

The Faculty of Native Studies (FNS), one the largest Indigenous programs in the world, is devoted to understanding the historical and contemporary relationships between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous societies in Canada, with reference to the evolving Indigenous societies and cultures locally, nationally and internationally. The Faculty graduates both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students with Bachelor's degrees in Native Studies, Native Studies and Education, Native Studies and Environmental Science and offers a Master of Arts in Native Studies and a PhD in Indigenous Studies. The Faculty also offers three Certificate Programs: Indigenous Governance and Partnership (embedded with degree), Indigenous Governance and Partnership (non-embedded), and Aboriginal Sport and Recreation (embedded with degree). Situated within a research-intensive university, the FNS' research profile centres Indigenous knowledge and relationships with Indigenous communities and is open to a highly diverse range of theoretical perspectives.

**Position Summary**

As a result of institutional restructuring, this position will undertake a generalist role in the Faculty, with a focus on financial activities, payroll, Human Resource support, timetabling, graduate studies administration and other project activities that are either specific to the Faculty of Native Studies or not addressed within the roles of the Service Partners, Hubs, or Centres. The position will report to and support the Faculty General Manager (formerly the Assistant Dean/Administration).

The incumbent is responsible for supporting the day-to-day financial, payroll administration of the Faculty. The incumbent will also be responsible for class scheduling for both credit and non-credit courses, support graduate administration duties and other administrative functions as assigned.

The incumbent must be able to navigate the complexities of the unit which range from a variety of funding sources, including research and other restricted funds, to determining the most efficient processes to use. A cross-sectional knowledge and perspective of the needs of the unit is imperative to creating a coherent and efficient approach across the faculty.

The FA holds a key role in upholding FNS’ integrity, to be culturally responsive and responsible when working with Indigenous People and Communities. Given the responsibilities of this individual, the consequence of error is significant, potentially impacting the reputation of the institution, the reputation of the faculty as well as the institution's audit standing which directly affects the confidence of Indigenous Communities, Partners, and Peoples, as well as external funding/granting organizations.

**Duties**

Financial Administration - 30%
- Assists the FGM/Assistant Dean Administration on managing day-to-day financial administration for the faculty. This includes programs with funding, operating, and special purpose accounts.
- Acts as a resource and reference to administrative and senior leadership staff regarding policies and procedures, Shared Service processes, documentation requirements, providing training to faculty staff on these matters as required.
- Reviews and advises on coding (i.e. programs, speedcode, chartstrings), reasonableness, and appropriateness
