Reporting to the General Sales Manager, this position is responsible for generating sales volume and customer inquiries, responding to customers’ inquiries, preparing responses to customer RFPs, delivering presentations, creating and following up on proposals, and helping Timberland meet its growth and profitability goals. The position involves all aspects of the business development process including: prospecting, lead generation, qualifying leads, proposal preparation/follow-up, developing account strategy, handling customer questions with respect to proposals, and closing of the sale. The position summary is to be used as a guideline only and may not incorporate all functions of the job.

**DUTIES**
- Lead a proactive approach to developing new business opportunities in the marketplace and dealing with large multi-national clients
- Develop and execute effective strategies to develop and close sales
- Negotiate win/win contract terms and conditions with customers
- Ensure customers are kept adequately informed of their projects from the date of closing through to date of shipment
- Keep in touch with customer after the date of shipment and provide assistance during installation, commissioning and first use of the equipment
- Develop and manage strategically important relationships that further business development activities
- Acquire new customers, and ensure that current customers are informed of the company’s services and resources available
- Work in partnership with customers to help them define and reach long-term profitability goals
- Develop business partnerships with sales agents to penetrate market
- In cooperation with the General Sales Manager, prepare and review marketing and sales plans, and ensure that the plans are being executed to achieve forecasts
- Provide regular sales reporting to General Sales Manager in alignment with business objectives

The initial responsibilities for this position will involve training for the first six to twelve months in the preparation of estimates and proposals as they relate to Timberland, our customers and industries. This will include:

- Reading and evaluating customer specifications and terms & conditions of inquiry
- Determining with Engineering, and the General Sales Manager, the equipment/concept to be quoted
- Reviewing customer conditions and terms with General Sales Manager and/or Controller
- Preparing proposal documentation for distribution to engineering and manufacturing
- Estimating the material for the product quoted and consolidating with the engineering and manufacturing estimates
- Reviewing specification, sales literature and drawing as required; if none available, prepare technical specification and/or drawing required
- Preparing written commercial proposals

**ATTRIBUTES WE SEEK**
- A proven track record in complex sales of heavy equipment
- Ability to aggressively target potential new accounts, and assess the keys to success for each opportunity
- Experience developing and managing strategically important relationships that further business development activities
- Strong mechanical aptitude/technical knowledge of machinery including electric and hydraulic control systems an asset
- Demonstrated success in working with teams
- Professional communicator who can influence customers and lead colleagues
- Able and willing to travel extensively throughout North America and internationally

**Salary**: From $75,000.00 per year
