**Clean Harbors** is seeking a** Learning & Development Specialist. **The **Learning and Development Specialist** will work with the Branch Manager and employees to assess learning and training needs. This position will design, develop, and deliver learning opportunities and training programs that effectively support business plans and the achievement of strategic, tactical and annual business objectives.

The position will routinely interact with Subject Matter Experts and Leadership teams in both a consultative/advisory and in an information gathering role. Written material will be reviewed by management, business units and employees. When assigned by management, contact with external organizations and the academic community will be required especially related to 'best practice’ information, learning and research alliances.

- Provide expertise, advice, and support to effectively balance individual and group learning needs/ preferences, strategies, and options in the context of business competency needs and budget/time resource constraints.
- Determine training related project costs/benefits.
- Evaluate and ensure there is an effective match between learning program content and the target audience(s).
- Oversees/undertakes or participates in the development and delivery of programs using sound instructional design, effective computer-based instructional design and multi-media development if required. Training topics could include regulatory (safety training), orientations (company-specific and customer specific), technical (equipment) or soft-skills/leadership.
- Undertakes in-depth research in specific content areas required to develop new resources.
- Working in partnership with Subject Matter Experts, develop or assist in development, pilot, revise and deliver new resources.
- Ensures effective administration of programs including determining budget and resource requirements of courses; coordination of program content and delivery with participating departments; and providing on-going advice and support materials to participants.
- Plays a supporting role in developing and improving systems to store and retrieve organizational and individual knowledge through database(s).
- Classroom Management: Effectively manage classroom to ensure timely and effective delivery of curriculum(s).
- Field based activities: Learning & Development Specialist will travel to sites throughout Canada for the following:

- Provide coaching and mentoring on the safe operation of our various equipment.
- Conduct competency evaluations for sign-off of various equipment - completing associated paperwork and ensuring that training records are captured in our Learning Management System,
- Prepare/execute training plans for employees requiring additional coaching/mentoring to attain sign-off of various equipment through partnership(s) with the employee and Operations teams,
- Conduct driving assessments for employees authorized to drive Clean Harbors’ equipment - completing associated paperwork and ensuring records are captured in the appropriate location(s),
- 3-5 years’ experience within a leadership/coaching/training role required.
- 5+ years’ experience within an industrial setting
- Valid class 1 or 3 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
- Ability to travel overnight as required.
- Proficient computer skills; MS office, and Power Point
- Strong learning, innovation, conceptual and analytical skills.
- Strong commitment to internal customer service, performance consulting, workforce development, personal initiative and problem solving to identify and facilitate needed change.
