A Day in YOUR Life as a Breakfast Room Attendant

Every person that enters a hotel should be greeted and feel like a guest This is YOU on your first day of work and every work day after that. You walk in with a smile, say hello to passing guests and acknowledge your colleagues perhaps with a smile, nod or salutation. It’s early and guests are still sleeping, but you know it will be a busy day, once they wake from their comfortable sleep.
You make your way to the employee change room and transform into your sharp, clean look with your professional and comfortable uniform, punch in at the time clock and energetically jump into the breakfast room to start setting up.

You will be preparing to open the breakfast room for service. Regardless of the time of day or length of shift you are ready to meet every guest with exceptional service, cleanliness and care
As the day begins, you check with the front desk department to see how many guests we have in the hotel. This will enable you to efficiently plan how many breakfast items you need to prepare for the day. You and your teammates complete an inventory check every week, according to the hotel occupancy, so the breakfast items are well stocked in the storage room. After confirming today’s menu, you start setting up the tables, buffet area and organize the kitchen. Make sure to turn on the food warmer at first, because no one likes cold eggs Check the room temperature, depending on the season, you may need to turn the air conditioning. On a hot summer day, you know how cold drinks run out fast. On a snowy day in winter, you ensure the “to-go cups” are ready so guest can take their coffee/tea on the road. Once everything is set, you open the door and welcome guests with your big smile. Our guests may be here on a family vacation, an important business trip or even travelling for an emergency medical appointment. As you get to know your guests and pick up on their behaviours, you look for opportunities to go above and beyond and make them feel special. Your morning will be very busy as guests keep coming and going. You make sure all breakfast items are filled up constantly and displayed appealingly. Also, ensure that we never run out of coffee cups and that the counter, tables and floors are always clean. You are responsible for the cleanliness and preparedness of the breakfast room, yet you are always focused on our guests and their needs. Don’t forget you are their ambassador to our hotel, surroundings and city. By the time you leave, you are more than satisfied that your guests are all taken care of as they gear up for the day

What happens behind the scenes of all those interactions
- You follow company policies and standards such as sanitizing high touch areas and any other requirements for the processes as outlined by your department leaders;
- Assemble the breakfast buffet before mealtime;
- Ensure breakfast items are continually replenished and presented in an appealing manner;
- Ensure all safe food handling procedures are met, including temperature checks;
- Maintain cleanliness of all appliances and counter spaces throughout the breakfast shift;
- Maintain inventory of the food, beverages and supplies for each day;
- Communicating with other departments to ensure any special requests are met in a timely fashion;
- Take on additional administrative tasks as set forth by your leaders;
- Maintain a calm and welcoming demeanor while multitasking to handle guest interactions at the same time as your daily tasks;
- Listen respectfully when guests have complaints. Empathize and work with the guest in an efficient manner to come to a resolution or loop in a manager if necessary to ensure the guest has a satisfactory resolution to their complaint;
- Follow all company and brand standards.

What are we looking for
- Some experience in food and beverage or customer service.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts.
- Ability to be on your feet for the duration of your shift.
- The understanding that SERVICE and CLEANLINESS are the keys to any successful hotel.
