As the Program Lead, you will be accountable for developing and administering programs, projects and services related to intergrated pest management through the City of Edmonton’s Invasive Plant Outreach Programs.

We are hiring one permanent position as the program lead who will be responsible for the Invasive Plant Outreach Programs as well as the social marketing campaign - Stop it, Report it, Remove it.

Program Leads key responsibilities:

- Create and implement strategic program plans
- Initiate, plan and conduct information and education programs
- Be the direct contact for internal staff, researchers and contractors that are delivering projects or involved in program development,service delivery, and promotions
- Coordinate special events and citizen-led volunteer opportunities and partnerships (such as volunteer weed-pulls); while assisting in the development of new and additional engagement, sponsorship and partnership opportunities
- Volunteer coordination and partnership data management
- Manage program budgets and look for alternative funding sources to support program initiatives (e.g. grants and sponsorship)
- Coordination and attendance of community events for program implementation and promotion
- Develop a high level of community and citizen engagement (with both internal and external stakeholders), and facilitation of public process and policy development
- Engage corporations, nonprofits and community groups to leverage resources to enhance open space, parks and natural areas for all programs
- Work with Research, Engagement and Communications to develop short and long-term community relations and social-marketing strategies that reach targeted audiences and stakeholders to achieve specific outcomes focused on awareness, attitude and behavioral change
- Supervise staff, students and sustainability scholars; provide input into performance reviews; assign, provide direction to, prioritize, monitor and review the work of subordinates; provide leadership, training, coaching guidance to staff as required to ensure performance standards/expectations are met; etc.
- Conduct ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement of programs
- Understand and follow municipal and provincial standards and policy relevant to invasive plants and integrated pest management
- Dependent on priorities and new programs assigned to the team, portfolios may change
- Perform other related duties as required

Program specific responsibilities include:

- Integrated Pest Management
- Lead on Spot It, Report it, Remove it social marketing campaign
- Coordinate volunteer weed pulls, including leveraging other programs where possible
- Collect data and develop citizen programs to promote behavior change and educate residents on the impacts of invasive, regulated and prohibited weeds
- Trial and evaluate innovative ways to manage weeds leveraging community, volunteers, and educational and social marketing campaigns
- Coordinate with operational teams who deliver pest management activities***

**Qualifications**:

- Degree in Biological Sciences or Pest Management, Horticulture, Forestry, Recreation Administration,or a related undergraduate degree
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in program development and administration experience, with a specialized focus in environment disciplines (ie. invasive plants, pest management, or horticulture)
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory role
- Strong working knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Municipal Legislation, policies and principles related to Invasive Plants and Integrated Pest Management best practices.
- Plant and weed identification and knowledge of plant and forest ecology or horticulture is an asset
- Knowledge in best practices of volunteer management
- Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgement
- Ability to conduct or facilitate a community based program needs assessment and program evaluation
- Ability to gain acceptance and generate a professional working relationship with colleagues and stakeholder groups
- Ability to respond to difficult situations, using problem solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution
- Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing, including public presentations
- Ability to recognize and manage group dynamics
- Valid First Aid and CPR Level C
