**Compensation Range**: $58,200 To $73,000
Compensation may vary based on applicant's work experience, education level, skill set, and/or location.
**Job Purpose**:
The Line Technician is responsible for the placement of aerial fiber cable and all facets of outside plant construction. The line tech places aerial strand and cable by climbing poles, using ladders, and operating bucket or line trucks. The tech may also place buried cable or run drops as required
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Perform all duties pertaining to telecommunication line placement and construction
- Safely operate and maintain aerial bucket/line trucks, reel trailers, lashers and associated eqpt
- Install hardware, strand, anchors, down guys, overhead guys, etc.
- Install fiber and coax cables from pole to pole, manholes, into buildings, etc.
- Follow all safety requirements and actively promote safe practices within the crew
- Perform construction duties while on a ladder
- Climb poles at different heights in order to perform construction duties
- Respond to corrective network problems, performing effective and efficient problem analysis, rapid troubleshooting diagnosis and prompt repair of cable/hardware/equipment to ensure service restoral objectives are met
- Accurately prepare and complete concise reports relating to repair data: network location(s), materials used, time, etc.
III. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Read maps and procedures to complete daily work
- Plan and implement preventative maintenance routines to ensure network standards of performance are met
- Ensure required information is reported to the correct parties in a timely, accurate and professional manner
- Maintain and track tool and material inventory as assigned
- Other duties as assigned by the Field Manager
**Qualifications**:
- i) Education and Experience
- Gr.12 High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience in CATV/fiber telecom industry preferred
- ii) Skills and Skill Levels
- Excellent English speaking/communication skills (verbal and written)
- Proficient computer skills (specifically MS Outlook; Word, Excel preferred as well)
- Ability to work at heights over 30ft
- Ability to lift equipment/ladders up to 75lbs
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
- iii) Other Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License - Class 5 with Air Brakes certification or Class 3
- Incumbent must obtain a Criminal Record Check and Drivers Abstract on regular intervals upon starting and during employment
- Applicant must be in good, physical condition
- Ability to work standing and overhead for extended periods
- Strong mechanical aptitude
V. WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Monday to Friday (8am - 5pm); however, some weekends or overnights may be required with mínimal notice
- Regular after-hour support required for live work during maintenance windows (2am-6am)
- Most tasks are performed outside in all weather conditions
- Travel up to 90% of the time (covering New Brunswick and Nova Scotia)
- In this position you will be assigned to many sites, routes and a large coverage area and may be asked to join an on-call rotation to provide our customers emergency support
