**The Opportunity**

Leavitt Machinery is looking for a **Safety Specialist **to join our team in Edmonton, AB. As the Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and development of safety policies, procedures, standard operation procedures, and safety training development. The Safety Specialist is also responsible for conducting investigations of accidents and suggesting preventative solutions.

**Essential Duties & Responsibilities**

As the Safety Specialist your key responsibilities will include:

- Regular site visits to assigned branches conducting inspections, identifying deficiencies,
- Conducting and/or assisting in annual audits
- Management of injury claims within their territory
- Facilitation of safety requirements for customer contracts, including pre-qualification documentation, meetings, or training.
- Conducting training and fit testing for respirators
- Manage regulator inspection orders and compliance within assigned territory
- Participation in review and revision or development of policies and procedures
- Participation in incident investigations including identification of meaningful corrective actions
- Regular participation in toolbox meetings, joint health and safety committee meetings and branch inspections within assigned territory
- Support Joint Health and Safety Committee members and Safety Captains in the execution of their tasks and ensure all locations are in compliance with training and fulfilment of these roles
- Ensure monthly activities, inspections, training and other safety requirements are met in all branches
- Ensure required first aid personnel is maintained within each location
- Additional duties as may be assigned

**Required Skills & Qualifications**
- Minimum 3 years’ full-time occupational health and safety experience
- NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) designation or equivalent at minimum
- Must be strong in both written and oral communication
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently
- Able to deliver training in front of various groups of people
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
- Working knowledge of regulations pertaining to worksites within assigned territory
- Ability to travel, at times extensively
- Valid Driver’s License
- First aid training appropriate to region
- Submission to drug and alcohol testing where required for site access
