Food Safety Specialist

**The Opportunity**:
**MTE Logistix Group of Companies** is looking for a highly motivated Food Safety Specialist to join our team. As part of the Service Excellence group with MTE, this position is responsible to ensure that all warehouse facilities meet the BRC S&D standards for Food Storage and Distribution, as well as AIB standards for Food Distribution Centres. The Food Safety Specialist champions food safety in our workplaces by implementing and maintaining food safety processes, documentation, training and achieves certification through third-party audit.

**About you**
Your education and background, along with equivalent work experiences within Food Safety, lead you to have a great understanding and passion towards maintaining the highest level of safety. You enjoy being on top of document control and organization, and you have a data driven approach towards problem solving. Having strong knowledge of federal, provincial, and local regulations leads you to make sure compliance and updates are fully implemented and followed through. You embrace change, challenge, and work in an autonomous way.
**What key items will you attend to?**
- Develop, document, and administer food quality and food safety systems that include a complete facility HACCP plan, including all prerequisite programs, preventative controls, specifications, regulatory compliance, sanitation protocols, material testing, and other related programs, processes, and procedures.
- Serve as liaison between the facility and its clients or customers or regulatory agencies in matters relating to food safety or food quality
- Provide and conduct all employee training and refresher training as required to ensure operational compliance with customer and company policies, and regulatory requirements in the areas of food safety, food quality, good manufacturing practices (GMP’s), HACCP and other related programs
- Routinely inspect all food-grade facilities for compliance to expected standards, including the physical upkeep of facilities and handling practices for handling of food products, quarantine processes, lot/expiry code tracking systems, mock-recall audits, and other related methods. Provide feedback to management for corrective and preventative actions.
- Coordinate and manage all aspects of annual food safety audits, and ensure pre-audit inspections are conducted at each facility.
- Participate in monitoring and inspecting compliance to all company workplace safety programs, including the development or improvement of company training programs for food safety and workplace safety.
**General Responsibilities**
- Ensure that all current and intermediate food safety practices and protocols will add value to the company’s mandate to achieve certification initiatives.
- Support the managers as requested, with assistance on GMP programs, AIB certification programs, Food Defense program, and other industry requirements.
- Prepare and submit all required reports on time and accurately.
- Report all customer complaints or significant issues. Report any security threats immediately.
- Provide support and assistance for special project initiatives undertaken by the company.
- Other tasks, duties and activities as assigned by the Company from time to time.
**What you need to succeed**
- **Must-have**_
- Post-secondary education in Biological or Food Sciences (preferred), or equivalent work experience in quality assurance or food safety, or similar role (minimum 2 years)
- BRC Certification
- Safe Quality Food Program (SQF) Certification
- AIB Food Safety Certification
- Ability to take charge of, maintain, and organize document control.
- In depth knowledge of food safety systems and HACCP principles and experience implementing and maintaining HACCP plans.
- Focused attention when working with file management to keep accurate, up-to-date, and organized files.
- High levels of accuracy with typing, data entry and transfer, and order entry.
- Experience in other administrative functions.
