In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary

The Engendering Success in STEM (ESS) Consortium is a federally funded research partnership of universities, businesses, and non-profit organizations working to address the gender gap in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. The Consortium seeks to design and implement research projects aimed at increasing girls’ and women’s engagement and success in academic and professional environments. We are seeking a Knowledge Translation Manager to join our team.

The Knowledge Translation Manager will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and implementing the Consortium's knowledge translation plan for dissemination to a broad range of stakeholders, including industry, university administrators, policymakers, community members and STEM educators. This person will work collaboratively with Consortium research team members and external partners in transforming research findings and program activities into easy to use toolkits, research reports, and/or visual infographics and to disseminate these through our website, social media, and newsletters. Examples of past efforts can be found under the Resources tab at successinSTEM.ca. Skills at collaborative communication, graphic design, and website updating are a must. Background or experience in science education or communication is highly valuable.

The position is based out of the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. The Consortium provides a dynamic and flexible working environment with a hybrid schedule that allows for opportunities to work remotely.

Organizational Status

This position reports directly to Dr. Toni Schmader, the Director of the Engendering Success in STEM Consortium (ESS). At times, this position may also work closely with ESS project manager, partner representatives, and research team members, as well as with administrative staff in the Department of Psychology, Finance Office, and Office of Research Services as-needed.

Work Performed
- Design and implement the ESS Consortium's knowledge translation plan and strategy.
- Translate research findings into easy to understand reports and infographics for both web-based and pdf formats, matching the existing look and feel of our output.
- Develop training materials and toolkits to communicate intervention materials for professional and lay audiences.
- Develop and implicate knowledge dissemination plans to promote and distribute knowledge materials to relevant stakeholders in education, research, and industry.
- Manage, and maintain the consortium’s social media and website platforms to disseminate consortium news and knowledge products.
- Ensure compliance with the Consortium's project deliverables and timelines.
- Collaborate with other members of the Consortium, and the ESS Project Manager to collect data on activities and outputs for biannual newsletters.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Work is performed with mínimal direct oversight; the incumbent keeps the ESS Director informed through ongoing communication. Effective management of the project is important to maintain operational effectiveness. The Manager alerts the Director to any unusual situations that may affect ESS or its partnership members, and keeps them advised of problems that have arisen or that can be anticipated. Poor decisions about policy, resource allocations, staffing and a failure to get the work done in a timely and effective manner would lead to damage the credibility of ESS, the project and consequently to the Directors ability to perform their jobs well and to a misuse of resources.
