The Workshop Facilitator prepares youth for employment through the facilitation of workshops covering employment and life-skill based topics and through referral to community resources and as well tracking workshop participation and attendance. Part of the Facilitator’s role is to ensure workshop topics are relevant, up-to-date and interactive. The YJC Facilitator work as, and is part of program delivery, within a fast-paced employment centre offering multiple program opportunities for adult and youth members.
**In this role, you will**:
- Assists with the development and maintenance of workshop material, both employment and life-skills based; updates curriculum when needed
- Prepares for and facilitates in-class learning including life-skills and employability skills; engages youth making workshops interactive and relevant
- Completes case note documentation, workshop attendance and handles confidential data; ensures quality audit measures are achieved in accordance with the YMCA and funder’s standards.
- Assist with marketing and outreach for the program when necessary
- Provides customer service by responding to telephone and direct inquiries.
- Consults and collaborates with team members
- Refers members back to Assessment Centre and/or to appropriate program service providers or community agencies based on personal needs and goals of participants
- Ensures YMCA policies and procedures are followed.
- Ensures self-management of program targets related to the employment program delivery and funder expectations; completes and maintains members' files as per funder and YMCA quality standards.
- Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.
- Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
- Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
**You bring**:
- University Degree preferred or College Diploma in Careers Planning, Employment Counselling, Social/Community Work, Social Services, Human Resources and/or related field
- Minimum of two years counselling, file management, group facilitation experience, job coaching an asset. Other Career Testing Certificates an asset, e.g. Level B, Life Skills
- Knowledge and familiarity with Harm Reduction, Stages of Change and Motivational Interviewing an asset
- Experience working with youth an asset
- Access to a motor vehicle is required for this position, as extensive travel within the Region is required and valid driver’s licence.
- Superior presentation and written communication skills
- Able to provide excellent service delivery
- Knowledge of community resources, familiarity with the labour market as well as apprenticeship and training opportunities
