The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), under the authority of the Emergency Management Act, leads the coordination and co-operation of all organizations involved in emergencies and disasters. This includes emergency and disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.

AEMA is accountable and responsible to the Government of Alberta (GoA), to Albertans, to their communities and to industry for the protection of people, their property, the environment and the economy from the effects of emergency events. Alberta relies on a decentralized system for managing the various emergency events that occur every year. This system is made up of many stakeholders and partners including, but not limited to, government ministries, municipal agencies, industry, First Nations and Metis Settlements, volunteers, etc. AEMA accomplishes its objectives by leading the coordination, collaboration and cooperation between all entities involved in the five functions of emergency management (mitigation, prevention, preparation, response and recovery) within this diverse partnership in order to achieve optimal levels of system performance and accomplishment.

**Salary**: $3,147.32 to $4,235.37 bi-weekly ($82,145 to $110,543 / year)

**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director of Central Operations, this position leads a team of Emergency Management Planners to develop, plan, coordinate, and provide oversight of consequent management and business continuity plans and process. The position also oversees AEMA’s Geographic Information System (GIS) program, with support from a GIS and Systems Technician, and supports readiness of the Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre (PECC) through management of the Planning Section during response.

The manager will be a key member of the PECC leadership team when activated for an emergency or exercise by performing the role of Planning Section Chief or other leadership positions within the PECC Incident Management Team.

The incumbent will also lead AEMA’s Plans Unit which provides expertise in planning, support for hazard specific response, and emergency planning initiatives involving various GoA and non-GoA stakeholders

**Qualifications**:
A university degree in Commerce, Arts, Emergency and Disaster Management, Public Administration, supplemented by four years related experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

**Experience**:

- Demonstrated experience in leading teams to achieve their goals.
- Experience in Emergency Management
- Experience developing hazard-specific and business continuity plans
- Understanding of Emergency Management best practices, applicable frameworks, and legislation
- Knowledge of strategic communications and stakeholder engagement planning, delivery and evaluation Experience managing staff**Assets**:

- ICS 300
- Position-specific ICS training
- Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP) designation, Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) designation, or equivalent
