Third Officer

**Overview**: Designated officer for routine checking and maintenance of Lifesaving Appliances and Firefighting Equipment. Accurate and timely preparation of specific documentation as required for vessels’ port/Arrival
- Departure.

**Key tasks & responsibilities**
- Maintaining lifesaving equipment, including vessel lifeboats, ensuring that the equipment is kept in a constant state of readiness according to SOLAS requirements
- Maintaining all firefighting appliances, including hoses, all breathing apparatus and extinguishers ensuring that such equipment is kept in a constant state of readiness according to SOLAS requirements
- Reporting to the Chief Officer any deficiencies in the lifesaving and firefighting equipment which may affect the vessel safe operations
- Maintaining Lights, Shapes, Flags Halyards and Sound signaling apparatus
- Keeping a safe navigational watch, as instructed by the master
- Taking charge of a mooring party
- Keeping a cargo /port watch, as instructed by the Chief Officer
- Understudying the second officer whenever suitable opportunities ariseCargo operations responsibilities and any other duties and responsibilities as enunciated in the company Safety Management System (SMS) or requested by the Chief Officer.
- Assisting in all cargo, ballast and cargo spaces operations
- Monitoring of cargo and ballast operations as instructed by the Chief Officer
- Ensuring that a proper deck and security watch is maintained
- Ensuring that the vessel remains securely moored at all times

**Prerequisites**
- Be a Canadian citizen
- Possess a valid Canadian passport with an expiry date over six (6) months from the time of joining
- Possess a valid Transport Canada medical with a validity of six (6) months from the time of joining)
- Possess the required certification for the position held as per the Standards for Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) and the Manila 2010 amendments for a vessel operating in unlimited waters
- Possess a valid familiarization endorsement for oil
- Possess a “designated security duties” certificate as per STCW regulation A-VI/6
- Obtain and hold an Enhanced Reliability security clearance. It is imperative to hold such security clearance as required by the Provision of Services contract between Federal Fleet Services and Her Majesty the Queen in right of Canada, represented by the Minister of Public Services and Procurement Canada
