**Purpose of Position**:
Reporting to the Community Development Manager, the Community Development Assistant is responsible for executing various project-based community development initiatives as directed. Activities will be varied and may change from month to month and thus a diverse skill set and ability to be flexible is desired.

**Job Summary**:
**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary education in community development, psychology, sociology, social services, recreation event management, or and/or equivalent of training and professional experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a working vehicle.
- Clear criminal reference check.

**Starting pay for this position is $23.38/hour.**

**Work Hours**:

- 28 hours per week (Monday to Thursday) 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
- Occasional Wednesday evening shifts for in-person programming or events

**Work Location**:

- This position is primarily based at our main office located at 16 Kilbarron Road. However, it also involves travel to various locations in the West End of Ottawa. We pay mileage for work-related travel. Any increase in car insurance premium related to using your vehicle for work will also be reimbursed.

**Desired skills, abilities and/or experience**:

- Minimum 2 years of related experience in experience in event or program development, implementation, dealing with people in crisis; group facilitation, education and advocacy.
- You possess strong computer literacy skills including Microsoft Office, CANVA, web page, working with list serves and have engaged in both in person and virtual community outreach.
- Experience in Non-Profit Housing or the Non-Profit sector.

- Familiarity with Local Social Services

**Additional Information**:
**Probationary Period**:Your first three months are a probationary period, after which you'll become a permanent employee.

**Vacation**: Enjoy 4% vacation pay, which can be taken as time off or received with each paycheck, equivalent to two weeks of paid vacation.

**Pension Plan and Benefits**: After 3 months, you will automatically be enrolled in the OMERS pension plan. Membership is voluntary for non-full-time employees, meaning it's offered but not mandatory. If you choose to join, NHC matches your contribution 100%. Canada Life benefits enrollment is also voluntary, with NHC covering 50% of the cost for part-time employees who wish to enroll.
