Indigenous Language Program Assistant

**Position Outline**: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Language Program Assistant to join our team and play a vital role in assisting with the planning, digitization, implementation, and coordination of our Indigenous language programs. This position is designed to provide crucial support to our organization's efforts to strengthen Indigenous communities and promote cultural resilience.
**Schedule**:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends and evenings as needed
**Responsibilities**:
- _Program Support:_
- Assist in the development and execution of Indigenous language programs and initiatives.
- Collaborate with the language department lead and coordinator to ensure program goals and objectives are met.
- Help create language program materials, resources, and documentation.
- Assisting with language filming and media production.
- _Community Engagement:_
- Attend language community meetings, events, and gatherings to build relationships (occasionally outside of normal business hours).
- Support efforts to ensure language community members have access to and are informed about our programs and services.
- _Administrative Tasks:_
- Maintain language program files, records, and documentation.
- Schedule meetings, coordinate logistics, and take meeting minutes as necessary.
- _Cultural Sensitivity:_
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect for Indigenous traditions, values, and customs.
- Ensure that program activities are culturally appropriate and respectful.
- _Collaborative Work:_
- Collaborate with other language team members to enhance program outcomes.
- Support cross-functional initiatives within the organization under the guidance of the language department lead.
- Other tasks as needed.
**Qualifications**:
- Indigenous heritage (will be required to sign a declaration of indigeneity).
- A negative vulnerable sector criminal record check (as you will be working closely with indigenous elders) will be reimbursed (with original receipts) after three months of continuous employment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and administrative abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
- Cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse perspectives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic data management.
- Interest in learning and working with multi-media.
- Experience working with first nations an asset.
- Desire to learn.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Minimum grade 12 education with an interest in language and arts.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
**Salary**: $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 37.5 per week
