**Description**
The Youth Supported Housing Operations and Resource Education (Y-SHORE) program helps youth aged 16-24 find suitable long term housing and supports their growth and development as they transition from homelessness to independence. As a Caseworker on SCP's Y-SHORE Team your primary role is to provide trauma informed, strength based, relationship focused, and youth centred support to program participants. Y-SHORE Case Workers meet with youth for 10-15 hours each week to offer active support and mentoring. Case Workers may be expected to assist youth in building community connections, accessing available resources, and developing life skills. Youth may also require support with education, employment, public transit, hygiene, and goal setting among other things. Additionally Case Workers are responsible for administrative functions applicable to the role, including but not limited to case notes, participant files, reports, etc.
**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Build positive and trusting relationship development with youth
- Positive role-modelling, mentoring, and relationship-based programming
- Create opportunities for community connection, educational learning, recreational outings, skills development, & healthy lifestyles
- Support case management plan created with the youth
- Connect youth to community resources
- Create and implement individual programming with Coordinator
- Daily reports on programming experiences and youth progress
- Incident Reporting and informing workers as necessary.
- Support involvement in education/employment
- Facilitate community involvement
- Advocate for the youth in the community
- Assist youth to schedule, plan for, and attend appointments as needed
- Daily support/assistance to meet the short, medium and long term goals in the Action Plan and/or Community Safety plan
- Other tasks as assigned: e.g. supporting Street Culture social entrepreneurial initiatives
**Requirements**:
- **Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Clearance**
- **Valid & Unrestricted Canadian or International Class 5 Driver’s License**
- Human services degree/diploma/certifications or equivalent work experience (1+ yrs)
- Intrinsically motivated and self directing
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong critical and strategic thinking skills, look beyond the task/event at hand
- Demonstrates agility within a dynamic environment, able to course correct
- Detail oriented with strong interpersonal skills
- **Training or certification in**
- Conflict resolution, Crisis Intervention, & DPVS
- CPR/First Aid certification, Food Safe, & Water Safety
- ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), Mental Health First Aid
- **Knowledge, experience, and proven ability in**:
- Working with vulnerable populations with challenging behaviours
- Working with youth with varying abilities, cognitive impairments, developmental disabilities & delays, FASD
- Sharing traditional Indigenous knowledge and wisdom
- Working with youth in high-risk situations
- Working with an Indigenous population
- Experience with landlords and living independently
- Community & Program Development
- Developing the design and delivery of life skills programming
- Strong interpersonal skills & positive youth role-model
