**About Us**:
The Communications & Marketing Team within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry has a mission to protect, promote, and enhance the reputation of the School locally, nationally, and internationally.

This is achieved through the development of strategic communications plans, the development, production, implementation and management of print and online publications, and communications vehicles, through social media, through strategic marketing and branding, through events and promotional activities, media relations, and the implementation of key strategies which engage students, faculty, staff, alumni, and donors.

A secondary mission is to strategically plan, develop, implement, promote, and manage the flow of internal communication and information while strengthening the internal culture of Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. It is through doing so that a greater sense of pride and belonging will be enhanced for all facets of the School and its various components through strategic communication initiatives and vehicles.

**Responsibilities**:
The Communications and Events Officer will strategically plan, implement and manage two categories of events: community focused promotional events and faculty-specific internally and externally focused events. These events are critical to the School’s mission and achievement of its vision, as well as Strategic Plan objectives and fundraising campaign goals, and this role will be responsible for planning all marketing and communications to promote and position the events to achieve success. In addition to managing the events portfolio, the role will support the management of the School’s social media accounts, and compile, edit and distribute school-wide newsletters, communications and announcements. The Communications and Events Officer is a member of the Communications & Marketing team and is engaged in all projects for marketing and planning expertise as needed.

**Qualifications**:

- Education:
- Undergraduate University Degree in Arts, Humanities, Marketing or related field (preferably in Communications/Marketing)
- Post-graduate degree in public relations and/or marketing is preferred
- Experience:
- 5 years’ experience in program or event planning, marketing, public relations
- 3 years’ experience in alumni relations or development is preferred
- Experience working in an academic and/or health care environment is preferred
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of project and event management principles
- Excellent verbal communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of an organization
- Ability to plan and manage events of various sizes
- Advanced computer skills including web-based tools (social media, Cascade and Campaign Monitor), Microsoft Office, information and database systems
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
- Influential interpersonal skills and knowledge of approaches and techniques for working with individuals and groups in a respectful, constructive and collaborative manner at all levels of the organization
- Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines
- Ability to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with clients, peers, and internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
- Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service directly and indirectly to satisfy expectations
- Proven ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize with an eye to consistently producing high-quality work and meeting deadlines in a demanding environment
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution and people management skills
- Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours and travel on occasion
