**Qualifications**:
A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate specialty, notably psychology, psychoeducation, or social work

Strong connections to the Black community

**Other Requirements**:
Ability to engage, mobilize and integrate school and community resources to best meet the needs of our Black students and communities

Understanding of and experience working effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and with FSSTT

Experience working directly with at-risk youth and marginalized clientele in both elementary and high school settings

Knowledge of and experience with health and social services agencies, as well as with community organizations that offer support and services to Black youth and families

Experience providing support and coaching to school staff in implementing culturally sensitive intervention plans with students

Experience in providing professional development to teachers, support staff and non-teaching professionals and facilitating discussion groups in the areas of EDDI, mental health, and trauma-informed practices

Experience coaching, supporting, and working directly with families

Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution and mediation

Ability to provide an atmosphere of respect and promote intercultural understanding

Knowledge of the Quebec Education System

Evidence of continuous professional growth

Ability to travel in own vehicle throughout the board’s territory.

Salary scale as per the SPPOQA CollectiveAgreement

$27.08 - $47.98 per hour

Nature of the work

The position of social service officer primarily includes responsibility for prevention, promotion, detection, and intervention activities with students and groups of students experiencing or likely to experience social, emotional, behavioral, school, or family problems to ensure that the necessary conditions are in place to promote healthy psychosocial development.

Characteristic functions

**The Social Service Officer**:
Contributes to the detection of difficulties and identification of students experiencing problems, using an approach focusing on prevention and intervention

Evaluates students experience social, emotional, behavioral, school, or family problems by carefully considering the information contained in the student’s record, direct observation or interviews, and consultations and questionnaires

Conducts psychosocial evaluations and oversees that a psychosocial treatment plan is developed, prepared, and implemented and ensures that the child's response to intervention and progress toward goals are carefully monitored.

Daily Tasks/Dossiers

Works with a multidisciplinary team to create, implement and review a student’s individualized education plan, while considering the personal, family, school, and social context to help student overcome their problems as well as to develop and maintain motivation in school; engages with other team members to harmonize and coordinate interventions and to assess the achievement of objectives.

Initiates communication and provides insight to the school to better meet the student’s needs and to provide the necessary support and supervision to ensure the student’s progress and success in school.

Conducts individual or group counselling sessions with students and ensures follow-up with parents; may refer the student or their parents to resources appropriate for the situation and needs; works closely with representatives of partner organizations.

Participates in the preparation, promotion and delivery of detection, awareness-building, and prevention programs on topics related to the problems experienced by youths.

Supports administration, prepares expertise, evaluation, briefing, and progress reports and formulates appropriate recommendations to support decision-making.

May be called upon to directly assist in defusing or responding to emergency or crisis situations and to recommend solutions.

Prepares and updates files according to the standards related to the practice of the profession and the rules defined by the school board; prepares progress notes or evaluation, end-of-process and follow-up reports on his or her interventions.

Works directly with students and parents; providing individual and group evidence-based interventions to students, as well as coaching, support, workshops and/or groups for families and staff members

Supports the implementation of plans to assist at-risk youth in schools and/or guide them toward the best suited educational pathway or resources

Monitors progress of plan for students and provides on-going feedback to school
