In a manner consistent with Richmond Hill Public Library’s overall vision and purpose, provides in-depth children’s reference, information and reader’s advisory service. Responsible for planning and executing programs for children and their families within a team environment. Possesses an excellent knowledge of technology. Delivers excellent customer service in a culture of values.

**TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Supports a welcoming library environment.
- Assists with outreach initiatives within the community and participates in activities designed to stimulate use of the library’s resources through schools and other agencies which serve children and their families.
- Plans, prepares and delivers programs as assigned, including book clubs, database workshops and daycare outreach.
- Demonstrates knowledge of technology including social media, creation of educational presentations, website content creation.
- Participates on committees and interdepartmental teams, and attends relevant meetings, workshops and courses as required.
- Responsible for observing and following all established occupational health and safety procedures, to be aware of hazards in the workplace and preventative measures taken. Takes an active part in protecting oneself, fellow staff members and library property by reporting all hazardous conditions and unsafe work procedures. Adheres to the Employee Health and Safety Manual and to the Richmond Hill Public Library Health and Safety Policy.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

**ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- Library Techniques Diploma
- Minimum of two years relevant experience, applicable to the public library environment, including delivery of children’s story times and children’s programs.

**ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS**
- Commitment to superior customer service
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to provide superior reference and information service to a wide range of library users in a busy automated environment.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, develop and implement programming, particularly children’s programming.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to:

- Communicate in a highly effective manner with a full range of customers
- Instruct and assist customers with use of self-services, including supporting technologies
- Ability to problem solve and resolve conflict effectively
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment.
- Excellent knowledge of electronic resources, website content development, social media and information literacy
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment
- Knowledge of, and experience in use of applicable library information systems
- Strong working knowledge of Windows software and strong word processing skills, as well as a minimum typing speed of 35 w.p.m.

**ASSETS**
- Early Childhood Education or other related courses
- Experience in a unionized and diverse environment
