**Duties**:
Coordinate and promote educational opportunities for Indigenous students including the Aboriginal University Bridging Program and Developmental Education. Conduct student intake interviews to assess and place prospective students for appropriate course(s)/level(s); problem solve registration issues, complete Permission to Register forms, including assessing prerequisites; manage complex timetabling/sponsorship issues; support students to acquire texts and supplies, and liaise with relevant University departments and external agencies including community-based educational organizations; plan and facilitate student success workshops; work with students to create individual education and career plans; liaise with the Office of Indigenous Education and Engagement on Indigenous student recruitment, retention, and student engagement.

Work closely with the Aboriginal University Bridging Program Chair and Indigenous communities to collaboratively ensure the transition of Indigenous students to VIU is made as seamless as possible. Provide support and outreach to Indigenous students doing upgrading in community and who are expecting to transition to VIU.

The focus of this position is to create a welcoming pathway for Indigenous students to come to VIU and to address systemic barriers that may impact these pathways for Indigenous students.

**Required Qualifications**:
Master's Degree in relevant field from an appropriately accredited institution. Responsive to diverse cultural backgrounds and learning styles. Deep understanding of Indigenous history and issues, particularly as they relate to access to post-secondary education, and an appreciation of the complexity and range of Indigenous peoples and communities. Demonstrated understanding and experience in working with Indigenous communities. Ability to create effective and sustainable relationships in multidisciplinary settings.

Familiarity with the Aboriginal University Bridging Program and Vancouver Island University programs and procedures. Proven advising skills; knowledge of learning disabilities and familiarity with approaches which can enhance student success. Demonstrated high level of communication and interpersonal skills. High-level organizational skills, critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and conflict resolution skills. Proven experience in mentoring adult learners, and confirmed teaching experience, including facilitation of workshops for groups of Indigenous adult learners. Recent experience with advising and assessment procedures; sensitivity to the needs of a wide variety of adult students; ability to take initiative, exercise good judgment, work both independently and as a part of a team. Computer literacy, particularly as it applies to using MS Office, data bases, Outlook, electronic forms, and research techniques.

Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.
