Reporting to the Director of Finance, this position provides financial support to the Director of Finance and the Finance Unit including the financial analysis and the preparation of reports for both external (i.e. funding bodies, external auditors) and internal (i.e. staff, faculty, and unit supervisors) stakeholders. Interaction with external funding agencies and reporting results both internally and externally is a key component of this position.

This position is covered by the Terms and Conditions of the OPSEU Unit 677 Collective Agreement (Unit 2). A copy is available on the NOSM University website.

**Responsibilities**:
Tasks may include but are not limited to the following:

- Develops general reports as well as monthly specialized reports for operating units and the Finance unit.
- Performs routine to complex financial and accounting duties including processing of financial transactions.
- Works closely with both internal and external stakeholders in the preparation of financial reports.
- Assists in the preparation of financial statements and notes, including the financial statements for Ministry of Health funded programs for review and audit.
- Prepares working papers, schedules, and statements for incorporation in the NOSM University financial statements.
- Assists in the preparation of working papers and schedules for the audit of externally funded grants and contracts and assist in the provision of required documentation to the auditors.
- Monitors project spending and ensures that the various funding bodies’ guidelines, regulations, and contract restrictions are met.
- Assists in the preparation of operating budgets for NOSM University through communications with budget holders.
- Provides analysis of trends and forecasts and makes recommendations for optimization.
- Develops and maintains reporting templates for financial statements, settlement reports and variance reports.
- Maintains accurate, well organized financial files and ensures accuracy and integrity of related data within the financial system.
- Prepares, monitors, and researches tax information including T4As, T2202s, T2200s and HST for final approval and discussion with Director.
- Creates and provides training and material for finance related policies and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- A University degree in Accounting for Business Administration from a recognized university with Canadian accreditation or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA).

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Minimum of three (3) years of related experience is required
- Experience preparing financial statements required
- Experience in a medical or post-secondary education environment is an asset
- Advanced Excel skills is required
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Auditing Principles
- Experience in financial reporting, account reconciliation and financial analysis
- Working knowledge of auditing practices and procedures
- Processes, policies and procedures of grant funding agencies
- Understand and follow instructions, and work with mínimal supervision
- Prepare written reports, protocols and procedures
- Work within established organizational practices, protocols and policies
- Work in a consultative and collaborative fashion with a variety of other units to further overall school strategic objectives
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment
- Multi-task in a high-volume work environment
- Work independently and as part of a team
- Work on several tasks/projects simultaneously

**Language**:

- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
- French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
