**About the role**

Reporting to the Lead-DEI Communications, the Strategic Communications Specialist will be an experienced, professional, and collaborative communicator and storyteller, who brings an equity lens to strategy and content development and is passionate about fostering workplace inclusion and driving organizational change.

This role requires strong writing skills, change communication skills and experience exercising sound judgment and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and complex situations and topics.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Advise, develop, and execute measurable communications strategies and tactics in support of Canadian Blood Services’ DEI and Indigenization goals and objectives.
- Support the ongoing communications needs of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team, developing communications products (key messages, internal communications, stories, website content, press releases, digital content, reports, etc.) that address key business imperatives, priority initiatives and critical issues.
- Use a diversity of storytelling tools and platforms to produce and develop engaging, equity-centred content for internal and external audiences; leveraging traditional and social channels that will help to influence audiences, drive engagement, and foster transformative change.
- Develop strong relationships and collaborate with colleagues, teams, business partners, employee resource groups and other employee networks across the organization, to co-create and deliver creative, thoughtful, and inspiring communications.

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in journalism, communications, public relations, DEI or a related field, in a corporate or health care environment
- Experience developing and executing innovative and measurable communications plans and tactics to effectively drive business objectives
- Experience co-creating communications products with and/or for underrepresented or equity-deserving communities
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and timelines and navigate a complex organization
- Experience in exercising judgment and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and complex situations and topics
- Proven experience providing communications advice to business partners and leaders
- Resourceful and creative, with attention to detail and an ability to deliver high quality work under pressure
- Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline, preferably in communications, journalism, public relations, or social sciences (a combination of equivalent education, job-related training and experience in a related position will also be considered).
- Knowledge of another language is an asset.
