**Job Summary**

Reporting to the Waterworks Supervisor, you will operate and maintain the City of Markham Water Distribution System (class 2), Wastewater Collection System (class 2), and appurtenances in accordance with departmental policies, procedures, and provincial regulations.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Operates and maintains the water distribution system and appurtenances to ensure regulatory compliance with respect to water quality and provision of a continuous supply of water for consumption and firefighting purposes. Operates the system in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, MOE standards, guidelines and Acts and Regulations.
- Inspect all new water system appurtenances to ensure infrastructure meets City standards and specifications.
- Operates and maintains the wastewater collection systems and appurtenances to ensure regulatory compliance; continuous delivery of wastewater collection service; and maintenance of an efficient infrastructure in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, Sewer Use Bylaws, and MOE standards, guidelines and Acts and Regulations and
- Inspects all new wastewater system appurtenances to ensure the infrastructure meets City standards and specifications.
- Respond to customer inquiries and complaints, resolving concerns for system integrity; check and monitor system conditions and performance providing infrastructure locates and information in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Provides emergency service involving the water and sewer system during or after hours, conducting assessments and immediate repairs and/or protection measures to ensure public health and safety, as well as system integrity.
- Provides basic work instruction and guidance to new employees in order to ensure the efficiency and quality of work. (on-the-job training). Operates and maintains departmental equipment and vehicles to ensure optimal performance and safe working conditions, and their availability to respond to daily activities or emergency situations.
- Ensures compliance with Health & Safety Act and City’s Health and Safety policies.

- Maintains valid Operator Certificates and Licenses required by the Ministry of the Environment for the current System Class in Water Distribution Subsystem and Wastewater Collection Facility.

**Requirements**:

- Demonstrated experience in municipal Waterworks operations
- Excellent interpersonal, time/project management, organizational, analytical, recordkeeping, work prioritization and problem-solving, and staff development/supervisory skills.
- Thorough working knowledge of Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act, Ontario Water Resources Act and associated Regulations is required.
- Computer literacy using word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software is preferred
- Minimum Class G driver's licence in good standing; ability to upgrade to a DZ Divers License for the Operation of heavy equipment.
- Availability to participate in shared on-call (24/7) standby rotation and environmental emergency response
