**The Opportunity**

We are seeking someone who wants to make a difference and has a passion for supporting young people who have experienced difficulties with family and housing, coping, or who are working to manage mental health or substance use concerns. A good fit for our agency is a self-directed, engaging and empathetic Clinical Counsellor who has clear knowledge, experience and understanding of mental wellness as it relates to the experience of a young person or their caregiver. We are looking for someone who can function independently yet also interface well with our Clinical Coordinator who oversees the program.

The overall goal of the Clinical Counsellor is to provide a range of appropriate, timely and accessible assessment, treatment and/or support services to youth who have been placed in Specialized Home Support Services (SHSS) with Encompass Support Services Society (ESSS).

The Clinical Counsellor participates as a member of the Specialized Home Support Services team. The Counsellor supports the service model through providing services to youth and their family members. Interventions may be provided on a 1:1 basis, to families, and to groups.

Interventions may occur in an office setting, but will often take place as milieu therapy, providing interventions through every day interactions with youth in their home and community. The Clinical Counsellor will also support the other staff in the SHSS programs in terms of guidance for interactions with the participants and families, and may attend case management meetings. The counsellor will work with a variety of presenting concerns, utilizing a variety of modalities including Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and will benefit from being concurrent disorders capable.

**A. Key Duties and Responsibilities**:
1. Plays a key role in ensuring that the SHSS offer a safe, welcoming, inclusive and youth-friendly environment;
2. Provides comprehensive clinical counselling to youth and their family members with a variety of presenting concerns, utilizing a variety of clinical modalities (such as SFBT, CBT, DBT, MI, EFFT);
3. Supports youth connected to SHSS with counselling, with a primary focus on supporting mental health, behavioural, psychosocial and substance use concerns. Concurrent capabilities will therefore be important;
4. Counselling will aim to reduce psycho-social impairment and increase emotional regulation skills of youth, and manage or reduce problematic behaviours within SHSS;
5. Assist Encompass staff in supporting the youth placed in SHSS;
6. Interviews clients to gather case history information. Assesses social, psychological, emotional and/ behavioral issues affecting clients. Identifies core areas of concern to be addressed by clinical counselling or other support (e.g., child and youth support workers);
7. Supports the youth and family with short-term counselling and/or refers to other resources when more appropriate. Provides case management through the service navigation process to ensure youth/families don’t have to take on this work
