**PURPOSE OF THE POSITION**

**Description of Role**:
The Community Workforce Development project is being implemented by NWAC in partnership with its Provincial/Territorial Member Associations (PTMAs). The objective is to address the skills and employment gaps for Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit, Transgender, and Gender-diverse (WG2STGD) people in small communities. The main components of the project include 1) identifying skills in demand by employers; 2) providing training to participants; and 3) providing a work placement following the training session.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Policy and Programs, the Community Liaison Officer will engage with employers to help identify skills in demand, help recruit trainees, and help support PTMAs and members of the project team at NWAC headquarters with the delivery of the program. The Community Liaison Officer will liaise with trainees and employers to help ensure success in terms of completion of training and work placements. The position will also involve helping with organizing roundtables, i.e., identifying participants.

This exciting opportunity aims to support the economic resiliency of Indigenous WG2STGD people. This is a term position, ending March 31, 2024.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

In collaboration with PTMAs and members of the project team at NWAC headquarters, the Community Liaison Officer will:

- Engage with small and medium-sized employers in communities to encourage participation in the program and help determine skills required for employment;
- Support the completion of Training Plans for each employer;
- Engage with participants/trainees, as necessary, to help ensure enrolment in training sessions and help identify support that may be required;
- Support the completion of Agreements with Employers and Agreements with Participants;
- Help to monitor status/progress of participants’ training;
- Help to monitor status/progress of work placements;
- Contribute to developing reporting requirements, as required;
- Assist with the organization of roundtables;
- Maintain regular and ongoing communications with other members of the project team;
- Foster and maintain strong and respectful relationships with PTMA partners and community members, such as employers and trainees;
- Perform other related duties, as required from time to time.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Undergraduate degree in social sciences, or related studies, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Relevant experience working or volunteering with Indigenous peoples, groups, or organizations is an asset;
- Relevant experience working or volunteering with Not-for-Profit Organizations, government, or corporations is an asset; and
- Relevant experience with community engagement, working or volunteering on community-based research projects.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Ability to foster and maintain respectful and effective relationships with PTMA partners and community members, e.g., employers and participants;
- Ability to work in close collaboration with PTMA partners and members of the project team;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Ability to create and manage documents in MS Excel;
- Ability to follow directives;
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting;
- Ability to carry out culturally-appropriate gender-based analysis;
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task and organize work effectively and under pressure;
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and internationally, their cultures, histories and traditions;
- Understanding and knowledge of Indigenous issues, and norms and standards relevant to promotion and protection of Indigenous WG2STGD people’s rights; and
- Knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues facing Indigenous peoples in Canada.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Overtime may be required at times (these hours must be pre-approved by the Senior Director);
- Employees are expected to multi-task with possible interruptions from colleagues or management.
