**Community Support Workers**

**Purpose**

- Curious and open to deep ideas and feedback about how to help someone with a disability live a fully inclusive life.
- Post-secondary education (Completed and, or In-progress).
- Utilizes effective verbal and written communication skills with the individual, their family network and support team.
- Effectively utilize their personal community connections when seeking out opportunities for people served. (asset)
- Effective at making in-person connections with potential mentors and community connection. (asset)
- Develop and implement strategies for meeting new people and engaging potential mentors and community opportunities. (asset)
- Poses a valid divers license.
- Current CPIC with Vulnerable Sector, Valid First Aid and CPR

**Duties and responsibilities**

Establish strong relationship and rapport with both the person at the center and the family.
- Engage in Community mapping and inventory of opportunities and assets aligned with the plan and interests of the person at the center.
- Engage in ongoing conversation with the person at the center and family around the four main pieces outlines above: Home, Contribution, Relationships, and the Tools to enable success in these areas.
- Discover typical opportunities that young adults would participate in
- Demonstrate affective use of online resources as research to explore person’s interests.
- Be comfortable and confident in spearheading networking with community members.
- Supporting appropriate opportunities as they arise.
- To support the search, planning, and participation in community events.
- Be warm, outgoing, and energetic as well as skillful in making strong introductions of others.
- Strong Planning and Communication Skills
- Participate in ongoing communication and planning with the family and BDACI, about strategies, conversation status, challenges, and successes. May include the creation of reports to document the process and involvement with the individual.

**Working conditions**

Primarily takes place in various locations within the local community. Some time may be spent in the individual’s home or frequenting neighboring communities or towns.

Support Staff must be able to be outdoors or travelling from location to location including walking or driving for the duration of the day.
