**Unit/Programme Description**:
The Office of Community Engagement (OCE) exists to ensure that McMaster is a major contributor to the social, economic and cultural life of local communities. It also exists to provide educational, research and service opportunities for our students so that McMaster graduates, regardless of their discipline, have the opportunity to integrate ‘real world’ experiences with their academic work and prepare themselves for engaged citizenship. The OCE oversees and develops programs and projects that develop capacity for community-engaged research (CER) across McMaster University. The OCE administers the Interdisciplinary Minor in Community Engagement and develops capacity for community engaged teaching and learning across McMaster University. The OCE builds and sustains relationships between community organizations and researchers, instructors, students and staff at McMaster University.

**Job Summary**:
This incumbent in this role will oversee the building and managing relationships between McMaster University and Hamilton communities, with a focus on social justice and equity. The incumbent will act as representative of McMaster in the community, and build intentional relationships, striving to foster new community and campus connections that lead to the development of interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral research, education, and service partnerships. As a result of relationship and partnership development work, this member of our OCE team will co-develop events and initiatives that aim to promote civic and community engagement opportunities for McMaster faculty, staff, students, and Hamilton communities.

**Representative Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Supervise, manage, and faciliate community partnerships with a diverse range of campus partners and community organizations and agencies.
- Field and respond to initial requests from community and campus partners.
- Serve as a point of first contact to McMaster University for community members interested in research, education, or service partnerships.
- Supervise, manage, and facilitate the development and negotiation of partnership agreements with community organizations and campus partners.
- Engage, maintain and facilitate complex relationships with community and campus partners in order to facilitate new partnerships between the University and community partners.
- Have a thorough working knowledge of community organizational, governmental, and institutional operational and administrative practices and relationships
- Have a broad understanding of multiple fields of knowledge to navigate educational, research, project-based and partnership requests.
- Remain current with changing contributions to knowledge related to community engagement, community-based teaching and learning, community-based participatory initiative and research, and community-based action research
- Meet with colleagues at McMaster and in the community to share information about the Network, to learn about community or campus requests related to research, education, or service, and to build relationships with community partners.
- Supervise and manage evaluations of complex partnership requests in collaboration with the appropriate stakeholder.
- Translate complex academic information into clear plain language communications documents and presentations to be shared with academic and public audiences.
- Update stakeholders on the community engagement project progress and disseminate pertinent information regarding community engagement.
- Oversee and manage knowledge brokering activities and services that connect colleagues at McMaster and community members with each other.
- Coordinate liaison meetings between stakeholders, evaluating and analyzing outcomes to identify possible longer-term partnership opportunities to be pursued with the University.
- Plan, coordinate and facilitate a variety of meetings, events, workshops, seminars.
- Organize workshops, meetings and written communications at local, provincial, and national level.
- Advise on and support connections through the Office’s formal programs, including, but not limited to, CityLAB Hamilton, Interdisciplinary Minor in Community Engagement, Research Shop and McMaster’s Access Strategy.
- Collaborate and manage with internal partners and external organizations to coordinate, facilitate, and support the program.
