**Job Summary**

**Case Manager: Parent Support Specialization** is based at our walk-in centre, serving youth aged 16-24 and their children. This program is often a first point of contact with Phoenix. Reporting to the Program Manager, the **Case Manager: Parent Support Specialization** role is responsible for providing case management to youth who are parenting, and youth working with DCS with respect to regaining custody. This role also supports others in the walk-in centre who require assistance throughout the day. The services offered are confidential, non-judgmental and include parenting support, advocacy, housing support, crisis intervention, counselling, referrals to internal and community resources, health services, financial support, food, clothing, shower and laundry facilities, computer, and phone access.

**Compensation**:
$45,000 annual salary, comprehensive group medical insurance plan, Employee and Family Assistance Program, RRSP contribution, 3 weeks of vacation in the first year and 4 weeks of vacation in the second year, generous sick leave, a generous paid holiday schedule, in-house trainings, and professional development opportunities.

**Hours of Work**:
40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., with some flexibility and occasional evening and weekend work.

**Screening Requirements**

**Key responsibilities**:

- Work with youth and other Phoenix programs to create effective case plans that address the needs of youth and their children.
- Support youth with children to complete intake, assessment and referral services, assistance in accessing resources, crisis intervention services, and mediation for youth and their families.
- Support youth with in-depth knowledge of child development, noting milestones.
- Liaise with other like-minded agencies that provide parent support.
- Work closely with DCS, understanding parental rights.
- Collaboratively work with DCS in support of young families and potential DCS involvement.
- Educating young parents on parental support offered by DCS.
- Advocate on behalf of the family to obtain assistance from community resources.
- Develop/facilitate/support youth programming sessions related to parenting, child development, and sexual health.
- Assist families in acquiring and maintaining housing and childcare subsidies.
- Assist parents in developing self-advocacy skills through counselling, education, accompaniment to appointments and home visits.
- Assess family needs to promote enhanced child management and life skills.
- Participate in community committees, projects or activities as appropriate.
- Maintain records, assessments, daily statistics and files, and ensure confidentiality is protected.
- Supervise volunteers and field placement students as required.
- Contribute to tasks such as cleaning, ordering supplies and receipt and organization of donations.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor of Social Work, or an undergraduate degree and other relevant undergraduate degree such as BA Child and Youth
- Previous experience providing parent support
- Previous experience working with youth and children
- Registration or Candidacy for Registration, certification or membership of a related professional body (if applicable)
- Demonstrates high level of understanding of child and youth development
- Knowledge in the areas of normal/abnormal child development, pre-natal health, infant and toddler health, attachment and bonding
- Sound knowledge of the physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs of a family unit
