Director of Manufacturing

**Job purpose**
The Director of Manufacturing is responsible for overseeing the overall direction, supervision, management, and strategic planning for the employees, storage facilities, and production activities of the organization. To ensure that the organization's daily production activities are carried out efficiently and successfully, this leadership position is responsible for all production aspects of its plants and its supply chain for the plants.
The position calls for leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills and abilities as well as the capacity to generate solutions. In order to brainstorm and create long-term plans that usher in new levels of productivity and success for the business, the Director of Manufacturing collaborates closely with the senior management team.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
Specifically, this position entails the following duties (but is not limited to them):
- Monitor overall plant performance and activity.
- Establish production goals and monitoring progress towards those goals.
- Report on production metrics to the senior management team.
- Revise goals and schedules as needed depending on external and internal factors.
- Lead the production team.
- Provide prompt and thorough annual appraisals, including the coaching and development of work abilities.
- Create and implement an annual production plan that includes financial projections, schedules, training, instructions, guidelines, and assignments.
- Maintain and assess the most recent budget reports for each plant.
- Create, implement, maintain, and oversee all the organization's safety, food safety, and industrial health programs and policies.
- Control and uphold ongoing food certification and requirements.
- Drive a continuous improvement culture within the company by prioritizing opportunities and execution of a Lean transformation strategy and metrics.
- Supervise and maintain inventory control records.
- Keep track of all records in compliance with the requirements of Ontario's regulations regarding food safety.
- As needed, create, process, and maintain statistical reports, logs, records, metrics, and data.
- Lead staff meetings, management meetings, and other administrative gatherings; preparing reports as required.
- Follow-up on gaps in the scheduled flow of production in the plants.
- Make recommendations for process improvements; tracking the improvements; and reporting on the progress.
- Analyze cost reports, including productivity tracking, waste reports, downtime, and supply ordering.
- Interpret the data to ensure continual growth and optimal production.
- Ensure product quality and implementing improvements to production as needed when there are opportunities.
- Train, coach, and discipline employees as necessary.
- Participate in the hiring process, including the full employment lifecycle.
- Responsible for daily management and support for the team to achieve operational success.
- Monitor time and attendance and ensure compliance with Company Procedures.
- Approve the vacation requests.
- Carry out incident, accident and non-conformity investigations and associated reporting and action closure.
- Issue disciplinary action when needed.
- Perform other assigned duties.
- Follow Health and Safety rules and regulations.
- Must follow Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety, and Food Defense guidelines.
- Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
**Qualifications**
- BS in engineering required or related field.
- 5 years in a senior leadership position in the food industry.
- Previous experience managing a supply chain.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication abilities supported by a track record of achievement.
- High level understanding of supply chain management, inventory management, and warehouse and logistics management.
- Knowledge of data analysis and operations processes required.
- Superior understanding of a variety of operational principles and activities, such as accounting, customer service, production, and personnel management.
- Previous experience in operations management required.
- Experience in project management an asset.
- Facility with office computing, including Windows, Microsoft Office products, Outlook and file management.
- Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing and Kaizen warehouse philosophies an asset.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
