LUSO Community Services is a neighbourhood resource centre dedicated to promoting inclusiveness, well-being and prosperity in the London community. We provide programs and services in the London community for children, youth, families, and seniors of culturally diverse and ethnic backgrounds.
**YOUTH WORKER ( 1 position)**
**Position Details**:This is a **SUMMER POSITION** **(35 hours per week**). The Youth Worker will work alongside LUSO’s full time Child & Youth Outreach Worker to deliver programming that supports youth ages 11-19 in NE London and Argyle area. This position requires in-person support with youth.
**Rate of Pay**: $17.00 per hour plus mandatory benefits
- **Eligibility criteria: To be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs position, applicant must be**:_
- Between 15-30 years of age at the start of employment
- Applicant must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and
- International and Foreign students are not eligible for the positions (funding is provided by the Federal Government of Canada)
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- **YOUTH PROGRAMS**:various programs geared for youth that focus on the development of leadership skills, life skills, social and interpersonal skills, literacy and numeracy skills. Programs are geared for youth ages 11-19 of various cultural and diverse backgrounds. Programs may include: Baking, Cooking, Arts & Crafts, Sports, Gardening, Leadership etc. Youth Worker will assist with planning, implementing and facilitating of programs, as well as assisting with setting-up, cleaning-up and shopping required to deliver programs.
- **OUTREACH & PROMOTION**: assist with the promotion of programs, through various outreach activities in NE London, as well as creating flyers, posters etc
- **ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES**: assist with maintaining statistics for the various programs, including attendance, supporting registration process etc.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- **Preference will be given to individuals who were in school during the 2023-2024 academic year; and/or will be returning to school for the 2024-2025 academic year.**:
- Post-secondary program related to human and social services, Child & Youth Care Program, SSW
- Must be comfortable working in a community setting and interacting in
- person
- Previous demonstrated experience working with youth
- Must be able to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds
- Must be organized, and have efficient work habits
- Possess good time management and problem solving skills
- Must be highly energetic, empathetic, creative and reliable
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to work independently and accomplish tasks in a timely manner.
- **Access to a car an asset as programming is at various locations in the community.**:
- **Current Vulnerable Police Records Screening required before commencing employment.**
**Priority for positions will be given to groups under-represented in the labour market such as: new immigrant/refugee youth, visible minorities/racialized youth and LGBTQ2 youth.**
