Richmond School District operates 38 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, alternate programs, continuing education and a number of additional facilities. The district enrolls approximately 21,000 students (K-12) and employs over 3000 dedicated staff.
The Assistant Manager, Homestay is responsible for contributing to the efficient operation of the Richmond International Education Homestay Program for the Richmond School District No.38. As a key member of the Homestay Program, the Assistant Manager, Homestay supports the Manager, Homestay in being a liaison between international students, their parents/legal guardians, custodians, student abroad organizations, homestay families, and RSD schools.
At times and when necessary, the Assistant Manager, Homestay will also need to address issues and offer support to students, parents, and host families outside of typical school hours.

**Responsibilities**:
Promote the Homestay Program in the community.
Recruit homestay families for short-term and long-term study programs.
- and long-term study international students, including background checks, verification of criminal records checks and contact information for each homestay family member (18 years of age and older).
Make homestay placements as required in consultation with district staff, agencies, hosts, and international families.
Assist in maintaining the financial records for the homestay program including the management of custodial, placement and monthly fees.
Orientate new students and families to the expectations of the homestay program.
Maintain the 24-7 emergency phone line.
Problem-solve student and homestay related issues as they arise.
Communicate directly with students’ local custodians and families in their home country regarding issues that develop.
Guide students and families in emergent or crisis homestay situations.
Organize YVR pick-up and drop-off schedules. Transport students, if needed.
Organize and deliver ongoing homestay networking and support seminars.
Required Qualifications
Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in counselling, conflict resolution, or interculturalism, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum 1 year of experience working in a homestay program or intercultural environment in community organizations or in an educational setting.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to use judgment and tact when dealing with culturally sensitive issues and in conflict situations.
Superior organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with all stakeholders.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and personal information.
Ability to work independently, to set priorities, and meet deadlines.
Ability to lead and manage support staff.
Ability to provide supervision to international students on and off campus when required.
Excellent computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, payment platforms (preferably Flywire) and databases (preferably True North).
Familiarity with international students and knowledge of homestay programs.
Familiarity with the BC K-12 International Student Homestay Guidelines.
Familiarity with Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada regulations.
Knowledge of the BC K-12 education system.
Ability to work flexible hours, evening, weekends, and holiday periods, if required.
A valid BC driver’s license along with a safe driving record.
A personal vehicle.
Fluency in written and spoken English.
Fluency in a second language.
