The Newcomer Youth Leadership Development (NYLD) program will provide newcomers to Canada between the ages of 13-30 with youth-friendly environments where they can meet new friends, develop their leadership skills, and more quickly adapt to Canadian society. The program has a specific focus on settlement and integration issues and community involvement. The program also engages the parents and immediate family members of youth participants through interactive, educational and recreational family activities. The goal of this YMCA initiative is to assist newcomer youth to have a positive settlement experience.

The Newcomer Youth Advisor develops and facilitates sessions for newcomer youth that are relevant to their settlement process and which encourages them to become involved in their new community. The position works closely with staff from across the Association and externally in the community and schools to recruit and engage newcomer youth. The position is also responsible for finding meaningful training and employment opportunities for participants, overseeing workshops and one on one support as it relates to employability skills of newcomer youth, building relationships, outreach, promotion, recruitment, program evaluation and reporting.

**In this role, you will**:

- Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate Newcomer Youth Leadership Development programming as it relates to our Youth Employment an Skills Strategy (YESS) program and outcomes.
- Advisor will recruit and retain diverse youth membership of surrounding communities, including managing the process of inquiry to registration to long term participation and retention as a YMCA member.
- Anticipate needs of youth and communities and assists in planning ahead for future programs and leadership opportunities. This includes the development and delivery of workshops that support newcomer youth process in upgrading their career skills and finding meaningful employment.
- Assist in planning and implementing special NYLD events throughout the year including but not limited to, Peace by Piece, Family Days, Integration Conference, Recognition events, celebrations and trainings;
- Work with NYLD team to plan and deliver family engagement activities.
- Conduct needs assessment within community and builds relationships within the community to promote newcomer youth and parent programs.
- Outreach to community through presentations and relationship building with other newcomer settlement agencies and works to build referral mechanisms
- Deliver presentations in schools and community to raise awareness of NYLD and reach more newcomer youth.
- Research, collect and organize settlement-related information pertaining to youth.
- Prepare monthly narrative reports for submission with the association’s report to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
- Act as lead contact for Newcomer Youth Employment and Skills Strategy program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**You bring**:

- University Degree or Community College Diploma in related field or equivalent training/work experience
- Experience working with teens and young adults is a requirement
- Demonstrated knowledge of settlement services and community information resources geared towards newcomer youth
- Superior presentation, facilitation, and organization skills
- Flexibility regarding work hours including evenings and weekends and at different locations
- Ability to communicate in a second language is an asset.
- Experience working with newcomers to Canada an asset
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
- Excellent written communication skills and project management skills;
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
