**Research Development Specialist**:
The University of Saskatchewan's (USask) main campus is located in the vibrant city of Saskatoon on Treaty 6 territory and the traditional homeland of the Métis. The Office of the Vice-President Research (OVPR) provides visionary leadership and strategic direction to the university’s research, scholarly, and artistic works. This is achieved by creating strategic partnerships, plans, and policies that together create a supportive research environment indicative of a world-class research-intensive university.

**Primary Purpose**:
To provide operational and strategic assistance for enhancing Tri Council success at USask. The Research Development Specialist works directly with the Usask Tri-Council leaders in driving, leading, and supporting initiatives and programs that promote research success and excellence. The Research Development Specialist is responsible for managing and administering programs, projects, processes, and activities that support Tri-Council research at the university. This position provides primary support for research targeting the Natual Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

**Nature of Work**:
The Research Development Specialist reports to the Associate Vice President Research (Engagement). The position is accountable to the Tri Council leaders, and in particular, to the NSERC Leader. The position requires that the incumbent can take initiative for innovation, work independently, demonstrate a strong administrative skill set and be a collegial team member. Though work arrangements may have some flexibility, there is an expectation to be present in person for service oriented initiatives and events. The nature of work emphasizes strong communication skills that include working collectively with Faculty, Research Facilitators, Research Support Specialists, and Associate/Vice Deans Research across campus.

**Accountabilities**:

- Leading initiatives and continuous improvement processes which drive and enhance research activity under the direction of the Tri-Council leaders.
- Effectively communicating expert knowledge of Tri-Council funding programs to the University research community with particular attention on the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
- Managing, administering and creating procedures for USask internal review and other support programs; continually adapting and revising programs in order to achieve USask goals.

- Collecting data, managing information, and coordinating and assisting in developing annual evaluations and statistical assessments of the historical success rates and internal review processes.
- Developing, maintaining, and updating website content for Tri-Council programs at USask.
- Providing expert planning, logístical, communications and other support for multiple campus-wide workshops and special events.
- Advising and liaising with Tri-Council leaders, research facilitators, staff, and researchers to ensure seamless and efficient resolution of inquiries, activities and associated administrative processing.
- Managing and overseeing the USask grants repository.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**: A graduate degree in a relevant field.

**Experience**:

- Experience working with administrative systems and software (e.g., scheduling, UnivRS, grants respository, Microsoft Suite such as Excel, Word, and Powerpoint, Teams, Cascade and PDF).
- Knowledge and experience with USask’s research financial and reporting systems.
- A demonstrated record of designing, delivering and managing programs, workshops and events.
- Experience working in a diverse and inclusive environment.
