Medical research manager

Primary Purpose: Pewaseskwan (the Indigenous Wellness Research Group) is a multi-partner research group which builds capacity and collaborations to conduct responsive, equitable, innovative, community-led research that continuously improves the wholistic health of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people.
Pewaseskwan carries out core functions (projects) including knowledge gathering, translation and training; Indigenous research and engagement expertise; and consultation and research services. Each project is supported by a lead and dedicated staff. All projects are approached collaboratively, drawing upon and capitalizing on diverse strengths and interests within the team, and linking with other organizations as required. Content and methods expertise is provided by dedicated research methodologists, other researchers and learners.
The RM will be based at the Pewaseskwan office, University of Saskatchewan.
The Research Manager will work closely with the Cameco Chair, the Executive Director and Scientific Research Manager overseeing the project coordinators and research staff and students regarding their projects.Research Management:
- Responsible for development of strategy and implementation of all aspects of the projects and network activities.
- Develop study protocols, including a lead or mentoring role in all phases of the projects.
- Manage research team meetings, provide regular updates on research activities; li>
- With the support of research staff, obtain Research Ethics Board (REB) approvals, including writing, submitting and revising applications through to approval, drafting and editing consent forms and questionnaires; liaise with the Office of Research Services as necessary.
- Ensure full compliance with Project Funder requirements.
- Coordinate development and maintenance of qualitative data collection and management tools.
- Ensure that the studies are running smoothly and according to schedule, and that the research objectives are being met.
- Oversee processes of data collection and analysis, at all stages; may be required to participate in the processes of data collection and analysis from time to time.
- Maintain high quality data through regular audits; oversee data entry and coding; participate in data analysis; coordinate research ethics approvals.
- Develop and maintain the study's literature database including the conduct of literature reviews and syntheses.
- Manage research operations: monitor research budgets and implement cost-effective measures to optimize budget utilization with the Executive Director and manage the establishment and maintenance of all study files.
- Work collaboratively with the research team to develop papers and presentations.Training and Supervision of Research Staff:
- Provide supervision and leadership to staff.
- Lead the training of Research Assistants and other staff in research skills such as participant recruitment, obtaining informed consent, interviewing and collecting data.
- Ensure high quality data collection, entry and management procedures.
- Supervise and be accountable for the work completed by Research Assistants and other staff.
- Maintain records of hours worked by Research Assistants and other staff.
- Work collaboratively with the ED in the ongoing evaluation of research staff performance.Knowledge Translation:
- Coordinate knowledge translation activities throughout the study including organizing knowledge translation meetings, participating in the preparation of reports, papers and other publications, and presenting research findings at conferences; u>
The Research Manager will be responsible for supervising the data collection and management activities conducted by the project coordinators, research assistants/staff, and oversee the conceptual and analytic work of the research with the research staff and team. The work will be carried out with significant independence and as a member of a collaborative investigative research team. The Principal Investigator/Cameco Chair will review the Research Manager's work to ensure that it meets the expected standard.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in a relevant discipline. li>

Education and Experience:
- Graduate degree in health or social sciences, preferred. li>
- A background/experience in project management within an advanced education portfolio would be an asset.
- Education/training in qualitative and quantitative data collection, management and analysis.
- Experience providing supervision to research staff.
- Administrative experience, skills and knowledge in research management.
- Knowledge of and experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection, interviewing, and library skills.
- Excellent computer skills (word processing; spreadsheet software, ability to learn NVivo [a data analysis software program]; library database searches; li>
- Demonstrated initiative and the willingness to work closely with members of a research team to ensure problems are resolved quickly and appropriately.
- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, health care professionals and policy makers. li>
